Regrettably, we will be unable to make the Christmas tree run this year. I'm bummed about missing this trip for a lot of reasons but several minor things conspired to keep me home tomorrow. A Christmas gift delivery that was delayed and we have to pick it up between 9 and 5 tomorrow (not open on Sunday) and re-ship it to Texas, a dog that has been throwing up all day, and a couple other semi-important things that must get done before we leave for Christmas vacation.

Oh well... take pics and post a trip report. :frown:

sorry to hear Mike. I'll bring ya a pine cone :D

I was driving around in the light rain, getting my errands done, thinking how awesome it would be to be up in the mountains in my Cruiser with the family, with snow falling all around me while talking on the CB, drinking some hot beverage, scraping my rear bumper every 3 minutes and have a good old time.

Mike, any reports from Steve on the radio?

I wasn't in the Cruiser today so I didn't get any reports from Steve and I just saw his message a few minutes ago.

Worried, anyone back from the xmas tree run yet?

Hello,

My husband Ron is Slimbuddha on this forum. He left for the xmas tree run this morning at 8 AM. He said to expect him home by 4-5 PM, well it's now 10 PM and I have not heard from him. Anyone know what's going on? Thanks

Nevermind, I just heard from him; everything is fine.

We had trouble on the run. I got home about 45 minutes ago. I am trying to get in touch with Steve or Jon now. Rory's truck is still up there with an electrical problem and the silver FJC is stuck.

Jon and steve and Ron and David L were going out the way we came in (down Plaiza canyon (sp?). George, the FJC and I went around the top.

Is all the lower group off of the mountain?

George is about there with the snowmobiles as of about right now. The road down the north side sounds way worse than I've ever seen - on the north side I've never seen 4wd needed except during snow and one time when Stewart, Robbie, a couple of others and I had to go around a big downed tree. There are a bunch of big erosion cuts in the road now. All three vehicles that went down the north side sustained damage.

Rory is going back up tomorrow, and we also need to get that FJCruiser out tomorrow as well - depending on Danny. I have two leakers so our 40 is doubtful, but will be happy to ride shotgun if anyone wants to go up with Rory. We need to coordinate the rescue of FJCruiser and Rory's 80. Snow is scheduled (?) for before dawn and after dark tomorrow according to Accuweather. George will call me when they get the FJCruiser people, Danny (?) and Amanda out. Amanda's dad met us who went back out the south route at the Ponderosa campground and we put him in touch with George. Thankfully there is now cell coverage in the Valle.

I'll post an update as soon as George calls me.

Yes. UGH! We all made it down to FSR 10. I came out with Steve and David L. into town.

I spoke with Mike not long ago. There will be a rescue party later today (Sunday) ... it's after midnight, so give me a break. At this time Onur, Mike, me, and Ash will go up and try to recover the trucks. I'm going to ride with Mike. My 4Runner had double trouble today, on a day we didn't need it. No locker, and the winch only went out, not in.

If somebody has contact info for Danny, we should extract him too while we are there.

In a nutshell for you gory types ...

Ron in his 100 saved the day with his tire chains. He suffered a side wall leak.
Steve suffered a tire leak too.
Me, no locker, no winch, but I did have a snach block and tree strap.
Dan broke something on his 80.
FJC is stuck.
Rory's FZJ80 has an electrical issue and had to be abandoned.

What a fricking day. We did get nice trees! :flipoff2:

Well it is not all bad news....

Lola gave birth to six healthy puppies. Pics tomorrow.

Good night, and thanks to everyone that lent me a hand today. I really appreciate it and hope I can be there if you guys every need help

Is the FJ cruiser stuck in snow? Sounds like I had the better day being sick. What will it take to get FJ out.

Everybody's off the mountain. Here are some maps of what happened. The overview gives the track (in red) and the route off the mountain (orange) by the northern crew. The closeup shows, in red, where we got hung up by a noncooperative 80. The orange route is from the pass down to the state highway. The FJCruiser got hung up about a sixth of the way from the pass (start) to the state highway (finish). The belligerent 80 is at the northern edge of the red track. Communication was poor, to say the least. We only had one Ham radio. Another sure would have been nice, as the CB communication was very faint. Not knowing if we could get by the FJCruiser due to the bad communications, most turned back at the pass and went back south.

Rory / Danny, are you planning on going back tomorrow? Let me know...

The FJ Cruiser is stuck in a ravine, and the 80 is ooc at the pass...

We're going up tomorrow first thing.

We are waiting to here from Ash to see if he is in as well--we'll need his 80's if we can use both of them. We did not call him, but I text messaged him that we were going to have recovery ops tomorrow.

I just got back from Dan's and things look ok there.

Mike is in as well. I've got a ton of recovery stuff at my truck and we are going to have to bring electrical stuff as well for Rory's rig--fuses, etc. I'll bring everything from my truck.

Kind of a bummer that my truck is sitting at Rory's with no head on it....we could have used it tomorrow.

Rory's calling me when he gets up and we are going to coordinate from there.

Crazy evening guys...wish I could have been there...

PS: Since we are unsure about Ash being in or not (I don't want to assume that he is), let's play phone tree tomorrow AM and coordinate meeting time/location etc--I assume the gas station at 550 near Steve's is probably the best place.

Talked with Ash.....he is going to pick up Rory. Talked to Mike. He is getting ready.

Let's use the board to coordinate meeting time and location....I assume the gas station at 550/428 is the ideal location to meet up.

Let's shoot for between 80am-9am?
