Jay2000, I was looking for the same thing, and basically you are not going to find it.

The only way I got the bezel was to buy the whole unit.

I remeber stimbling across a post, where a guy made one. He made a cast of the factory bezel then made one out of fiberglass or plastic or what ever.

Good luck!

glad they made it! have they been installed in your troopy?

Hi Ken,

I'm supposed to get the seats this week. The shipping time from Las Vegas to Manila is about 45 days. Can't wait to get the seats, has to clear customs first! Will have to modify the seats also. My troopy is fitted with a dual A/C system, I believe taken from a series 80 LC. Will also paint the frames, then send it to have the leather redone. Finally, I have to drill holes on the floor to install it. Will take pics when I finished it. Thanks:)

I think your right. Finding that elusive bezel is extremely hard. I have a friend here in Manila who says that he has it somewhere in a pile, he has been looking for it for sometime now. If he doesn't find it, my olny solution is to buy the whole assembly. I have a friend also who is selling the whole unit, I believe this is the only tach assembly remaining in Manila for sale. Unfortunately, it costs a lot. If I buy it, I will get the bezel and sell the tach here in this website if there is interest. Also, I might make copies of the bezel, if it is possible to help fellow mudders who are looking for the same part. Thanks:)

Updates to my troopy:

Here are some updates:
1) Changed tires from Dunlop MT2 (255/85R16) to Mickey Thompson Baja Radial MTX (305/70R16).

2) Bought original 2nd hand front seats. Had vinyl redone at a shop. Painted metal backs to gray. Overall, chose a lighter gray for frames and vinyl to give it a cleaner look.

3)Bought headliner at SOR/ Specter Off Road. Had headliner professionally installed at a shop.
4)Bought hard to find rear troopy jump seats at US. Thanks Ken! Had to modify the frames /legs to fit troopy. Painted the frames to gray. Had the seats/ vinyl redone by the same shop who did the front seats.
* Took almost two days of labor with the help of a friend to have rear sets installed! Installed four jump seats straps.
5) Fixed Dual A/C. Had to reroute plumbing at the back because of the installation of the rear troopy seats. Changed A/C belt.

Future projects:
1) Buy a new/ decent upper dash pad. Sold previous one because it had some cracks.
2) Install center console (located between front seats)
3) Rewire dash clock purchased at SOR
4) Fix oil pressure and AMP of the dash cluster.
5) Fix dash cluster lights. Too dark at night.
6) Install Tach........ But still looking for that bezel!

Thanks for looking.

Wow, the seats look great. You should post in the regular 45 section and show off your work to more people.
Thanks for the compliment and for the seats Ken! Last time time I checked there are only 7 Troopys here in the Philippines. They were not sold here locally, only BJ/FJ 40 were offered here. So seats for the Troopys are hard to find. All of the Troopys (all LHD) were brought in by the Philippine gov't, Red Cross and United Nations as service vehichles during the 1980's. After their service, they were auctioned off to private citizens. Thanks.

Updates to my troopy:

Updates:
Bought a brand new upper dash pad. I am surprised they still have it it stock here in the Philippines! Got it at a good price, $200 less than what is asked for a brand new one in the US!

Hi guys! I need some help. I recently purchased a complete tacho from ebay Australia. I am supposed to get it in a couple of days in the mail. Just want to know how it works/ installed. I am going to have it installed by my mechanic. Just want to know some background info. My troopy is a 1984 model with a 2H diesel engine mated to a 5 speed transmission. I checked the bell housing and there is a hole to put in the tach sensor. My first question, Is the tach sensor for a 2H the same as the tach sensor for the 3B? Cruiserparts sells one sensor for both engines, while SOR sells the tach sensor separately for both the 3B and 2H. I have a tach sensor but don't know if it will work with my 2H engine. My mechanic said that the flywheel of my troopy should have a magnet, so that the tach could read the rpm. Is this true? Don't know if my flywheel has one. Don't want to install my tacho and put a hole in the dash board and later find out the tach is not working. What else do I need to know? Any help/input will be much appreciated! I tried posting this question in the 45 section but I didn't get any response. Thanks!
Jay

Bear,
You're absolutely right! Don't want to install the tach and put a hole in my dash and later find out it's not working! I tried looking for a bezel for my tach but couldn' find one, so I finally bought a whole tach assembly. Fortunately, got it at a good price at ebay AU. Question: Just want to know if it is easy to find a flywheel with a magnet (see above explanation) or maybe it's the same as finding that elusive bezel... Yikes!!! Don't know if the flywheel of my trropy has one? Thanks.
Jay

Updates to my troopy:

1) Still waiting for the tacho I bought from ebay AU. It's been 5 weeks now and I'm still waiting for it. Hope it doesn't get lost in the mail. Sigh....
2) Bought today a set of Simex jungle trekker 2 tires 33x11.5x15. They don' sell simex tires here in the Philippines. There are no local suppliers. Funny thing is I bought it from a guy who owns a hardware and construction supplies. He just imported it with some of his materials. I just like the deep thread patterns! Here are some pics:

3) Ordered a set of eaton beadlock wheels 15x10. It will arrive here end of August or first week of September.

Thanks for looking!

Updates to my troopy:

Finally got my Tacho from ebay Australia! It took 5 weeks but, it was worth the wait!
Here is the pic: (One on the left I got today, the one on the right is my old tacho without the bezel)

Future projects:
1) Install the tacho.
2) Rewire dash clock I bought at SOR.
3) Fix oil pressure and AMP of the dash cluster.
4) Fix dash lights. Too dark at night.
5) Mount Simex tires to the Eaton bealocks I will be getting by the first week of September.
6) Install very rare, Japan-only fender mounted side mirrors. My friend is selling a used but original pair. Don't have the funds yet!
Thanks for looking!

Hey Jay awesome rig. I am digging those mili spec tires.

Can you shed more light on that AC set up you have? I am not able to source any AC parts and CCOT tell me their FJ40 AC wont fit on my troopy without serious mods. Not sure what mods are required, so am very interested to see how your 80 series AC is set up. Some pics of the AC compressor, condenser and wirings/plumbing would be fantastic if its not too much hassle.

Keep it up!

Hi boozewz,
Thanks for the compliment! I am extremely lucky when I purchased my troopy about 2 years ago, the previous owner installed the dual AC set up in my troopy. It gets hot in the Philippines about 80 to 90 degrees normally, and 100+ degrees during the summer. I'm sure it's not as hot as the weather you encounter in Saudi! So AC is a must here in the Philippines, and single AC setup is too weak to help cool off the big interior of the troopy. My AC setup in the front is aftermarket AC while the rear I believe (not 100%) is taken from the 80 series Landcruiser. The front is a Yokohama brand, which you can purchase here in the AC shops, they are easily sourced. The back you are going to have problems, unless you are able to get your hand on a "parts car" LC 80. With a dual Ac setup, the interior gets cold easily, even during the summer, even if i put the knob in the low setting. Here are some pics of my dual AC set up (Sorry I'm having a hard time taking pics of the plumbing underneath my rig):

Hi!

i have a HJ45, not nearly as nice as yours though... But maybe someday?

However I have the exact same engine/trans combo, how are your hand brake set up?

I just installed a rear axle with handbrake, but needs to find a handbrake cable that's long enough, a BJ/HJ75 doesn-t fit, that was $120 well spend!

Hope you can help, and again, nice troopy!

Looking at the photos, a few questions about your A/C setup:

It looks like there are two separate systems: two compressors, 2 condensors, 2 evaporators, two blowers?
If yes,
Do the two systems operate at the same time?
Does this really lug-down your engine when they are running?
Does the rear system push cold air only through the two under-roof vents?
Does the rear system include a heater core to operate as a heater during cold weather?
Do the refrigerant lines for the rear unit run under the Troopy floor?
Where is the condensor located for the rear unit, and does it have its own cooling fan?

I don't see a heater unit for the front driver/passenger--is the front unit a combination heat/cool unit?

Thanks.
