Hi!

i have a HJ45, not nearly as nice as yours though... But maybe someday?

However I have the exact same engine/trans combo, how are your hand brake set up?

I just installed a rear axle with handbrake, but needs to find a handbrake cable that's long enough, a BJ/HJ75 doesn-t fit, that was $120 well spend!

Hope you can help, and again, nice troopy!

Hi Christian!
Wow $ 120 for a handbrake cable! That's too much! Sorry, you had to spend that much money and the cable didn't fit your troopy. My rig has an original handbrake setup. I've had no problems with it whatsoever. I've never replaced anything including the cable. I will ask around the shops here in the Philippines if they have the cable you are looking for. Unfortunately, they didn't sell the Troopy here locally, only the FJ/Bj 40. There are only around 7 troopys here, so parts such as the cable you are looking for will be extremely hard to find. I will ask around for the cable you are looking for. Do you know how long the handbrake cable is??? Thanks.
Jason:)

Looking at the photos, a few questions about your A/C setup:

It looks like there are two separate systems: two compressors, 2 condensors, 2 evaporators, two blowers?
If yes,
Do the two systems operate at the same time?
Does this really lug-down your engine when they are running?
Does the rear system push cold air only through the two under-roof vents?
Does the rear system include a heater core to operate as a heater during cold weather?
Do the refrigerant lines for the rear unit run under the Troopy floor?
Where is the condensor located for the rear unit, and does it have its own cooling fan?

I don't see a heater unit for the front driver/passenger--is the front unit a combination heat/cool unit?

Thanks.
Hi Bear,
I will try to answer your questions as best that I can.
- Yes, there are two separate systems, two of each: compressors, evaporators, etc..
- No, the two systems do not operate at the same time. There are 2 switches (located at the center silver panel). You can use the front or rear AC or both at the same time.
- If I use both AC, it doesn't lug down the engine.
-Yes, the rear AC only pushes cold air through the three under the roof vents.
-No, the rear system does not include the heater core. My troopy doesn't have any front or rear heater whatsoever. It doesn't get cold here in the Philippines. It only reaches 70 degrees during Christmas holidays. Normal temperature here is about 80 to 90 degrees all year round. So, my troopy doesn't need any heater at all.
-Yes, the refrigerant lines for the rear AC runs under the floor.
-The condenser for the rear unit is located inside the gray box pictured at the back. Yes, it does have a cooling fan located at the back of the gray box pictured.
- My troopy doesn't have any heater whatsoever, purely AC only. It does not get cold here in the Philippines. Just don't need it.

I hope I answered all of your questions. Thanks
Jason:)

Thanks, Jason.

Isn't the gray box at the back wheelwell an evaporator with a fan to blow the cool air up into the roof vents?

You show what looks to be a condensor in your last photo--my question was where is that second condensor located(under the floor, up front near the engine, inside a wheelwell), and does it have an electric fan to help it cool the hot refrigerant?

I'm asking since I used to have an Italian exotic car with a mid-engine behind the seats and its engine radiator up front to get the cool air stream. The A/C condensor was located behind the engine and in front of a grille at the very rear of the car with an electric sucker-fan, and it didn't function very well in that location without a strong, cool air stream.

I have seen radiator/condensor/oil and tranny cooler units mounted inside and in front of wheelwells, and also under vehicles. Unfortunately in those locations rocks and debris can damage them fairly easily--that's why I am asking your configuration.
Thanks.

Hi Bear,
Yes, the gray box has an evaporator inside and the fan is located behind the box contained in a gray circular housing.
The second condensor is located under the floor, right in the middle of the front and rear wheels. The 2nd condesor is extremely big. I was trying to look for the fan but couldn't find it.
I know what you mean about sports cars, I also have a aircooled Porsche 911. It has a factory installed AC, but it is useless! The condensor is mounted right under the tail, right on top of the engine. Even if I have it repaired, after a few weeks it blows hot air again. Now, I don't even bother with the AC. I just roll down the windows and sunroof. Thanks

Thanks a lot, I have replied to it now.

I just can't stop thinking how fun it actually is that a Danish guy asks a Filipino for help on an American forum:) It truly is a small world...

Thanks for taking those pics. It looks like a seriously heavy duty set up you have there. The temps here in Saudi are pretty high in the summer months where I live (Jeddah), 40-50c in the day time. The winter months are much more pleasant 20-30c.

I am not sure if I have the guts to do what you have done as I want to keep it as stock as possible. I'll keep searching for that ever elusive factory AC!

Hey Boozewz,
If your looking for an original, factory AC, try ebay Australia. That's how I got my tacho, upon recommendation of fellow mudders. I think around two weeks ago, I saw one selling for about $700 AUD (used but complete). This is for the front AC only.
You just have to be patient! I will let you know if I find one in ebay AU. But, you have to check first if it will fit you rig, because cars in AU are RHD while you have a LHD vehicle. Don't know if it will make any difference. Also, if you find one in AU, the shipping to Saudi will be a nightmare, because it's too bulky and heavy. When I ordered my tacho in AU, I was quoted 4-6 working days for delivery but it took 5 weeks before I got it! I thought it got lost in the mail! Good luck on your search!

Updates to my troopy:

Finally, I finished tinkering with my Troopy!!! Here are the results!
DSC00867.jpg

Installed Oem Front license plate holder, Oem fog lamps and brackets, Conferr headlight stone guards and Bosch H4 Headlamps and bulbs.
DSC00868.jpg

Installed spare Eaton beadlock with used Bridgestone tire 33x12.5x15
DSC00869.jpg

Installed Eaton beadlock rims to Simex Jungle trekker Tires 33x11.5x15. Took 2 1/2 days with the help of a friend, just to install the beadlocks to the tires! There are 32 bolts per wheel! Also the factory painted the threads, so it was hard to install them. I think I broke two of them, I had to use vice grips. Really a pain in the a**!
DSC00870.jpg

Closer view of the wheel and tires set up. By the way, had to use 1.25 spacers all around. The fronts were rubbing against the tire rod ends. Decided to put spacers at the back to "balance" it out.
I noticed after running with this setup is that it is tooooo noisy. Even only at 20 Kmh, the noise the tires make is simply loud! Later, I find out from fellow off roaders using simex tires here in the Philippines have the same problem. My only worry is that if I have a flat tire, I have to remove 32 bolts per wheel! That's why I have two spare tires installed.
DSC00872.jpg

Installed another 48" hi lift jack at the sill. Used hi lift Loc Rac mounting bracket. Had to fabricate, using angle bars to mount the high lift jack vertically. Changed the jack handle to the Baja Buster Handle I found at ebay. It has a shovel and hoe at the end.
DSC00873.jpg

DSC00874.jpg

Installed upper dash pad light, Oem front floor mat (had to make alterations), Tuffy 1/2 wide center console. Unfortunately, when I put it in reverse, the knob touches the console (unless I bend the shifter rod).
DSC00875.jpg

Installed Oem 2 pcs twist fasteners to the bottom of the seats ( not visible)
DSC00876.jpg

That's about it guys! After three years of owning this trroopy, I finally finished it! No more tinkering, just maintenance stuff! Thanks for all the help and support! Maybe it's time to move on another project.....Hahaha!
Jason:)
