I have an opportunity to buy a used Aussie locker. Would you do it?

Owner claims it worked flawlessly and only has 2000 miles on it. Also claims he found a killer deal on a arb locker so he's switching.

I know the difference so I don't intend this to be a debate regarding elockers, arb lockers and Aussie. I had planning to do an Aussie at some point for the light wheeling I intend to do.

Time is of the essence.

TIA

I did. Picked one up with about 3000 miles on it here on 'mud. Been running it in my truck for the last 4yrs. No issues.

I have and I would again! I've beat this horse many times, but a lunchbox locker is the best bang/$ mod that can be done to any offroad vehicle. No worries about it being used or mileage, they're hard to break and the only parts that could need fixing are a handful of little pins and springs which could probably be replaced for $30 if needed.

The Aussies fit in all Cruisers up to 97. The 100 series got a different carrier and it doesn't fit that truck.

Example: the part number for a 40 is the same as an 80.

You might need a shim kit or different shims in order to get it correctly installed. Occasionally the factory shims work fine but not usually. Let me know if you need any other sizes, I have several sitting in my garage and if your not in a hurry I can give you what you need for the cost of shipping. PM me if interested.

I have a really super nice Spartan locker that was only installed for about 2 days, still in original packaging in my garage. Only destroyed one rear 3rd with it, make someone a killer deal on it (assuming you get better customer service than I did, that is...). :grinpimp:

That was biting sarcasm. That %$#@ thing ate my 3rd, then I got to hear the manufacturer tell me I installed it wrong and that they did nothing wrong. Funny part was, I installed it with 3 other mudders present and we all agreed we followed instructions to the "t."

Not saying I won't sell it to you, but realize that you'll get no help from the manufacturer if things go south. Had a thread here somewhere about the experience, check it out and contact me if you're still interested.

Did it. Thanks for the input. Paul I'll be in touch.

Congrats on finding a unicorn!

I know this is a old thread, but I installed my Aussie about a year ago, it's still clicking loudly, I thought it would quite down but still real noisy when I make turns. Is anyone else have a loud click or what did you do to keep it to a quite clicking?

Clicking in turns is what they do normally. There is no reason the clicking would change with age. Whether it is loud is your subjective judgement. Higher viscosity gear lube can dampen the noise a bit.

I have an Aussie for the last year now. On full turns it is barely noticeable with windows up. Even when the windows are down I still wouldn't call it remotely loud. Change fluid and make sure the shims are correctly sized.

Loud and proud on turns with my Aussie locker.

I've had mine on for the past 5 years. Flawless and seamless, which is all you can ask for with this mod.

My aussie locker has been installed since ~07, roughly 100,000 miles and still functions flawlessly....
