^^x3! Your passion to share the similar experiences you cherished with your children embodies the true spirit of the landcruiser, for which you are envied my friend.

Thanks fellas! I appreciate the encouragement. The 76 Scout was completely stock with the exception of a PA system my dad installed. Not only could you talk over it but it would play funny noises. We thought it was the greatest thing in the world.

Tackling the drivers seat today. I need to find a fix for the broken seat controls and attempt to repair the leather. Anyone skin their chair? Also going to go look at some tires today. BFGoodrich ATs, can't go wrong.

Busy day working on the cruiser. I went at looked at the used tires. I decided against it because one had a plug in the side wall.

I did find a used High Lift Jack on CL and picked it up. I spent a little time figuring out how to mount it on my rack.

The rest of the day I spent working on the drivers seat. I managed to get it apart but man it was a challenge. I'm attempting to fix the massive tears in the seat and the broken recline button on the controls.

I managed to get the seat apart and the leather pulled off. I even managed to hand stitch most of it back together.

The side stitches look pretty good but I've got such a huge gap in the middle I need to figure out what to do. The leather won't stretch far enough to come together decently. I worry it'll tear and I'll be back in the same position. It make take a whole new piece of leather.

I also noticed that with the hole in the seat the padding has worn away. I'll need to add padding back in to make it feel less like I'm sitting in the toilet.

Done. What a chore. Hopefully my stitch work holds up. I went to an upholstery shop in town. They sold me very closely matching vinyl and foam. I've repaired the massive hole and replaced the foam. Tomorrow I'll try to get the entire seat back together.

Put the interior back in after talking to CDan today about the fuel filter. I was going to do it, but he told me its actually not listed as a maintenance item with Toyota. He gave me the impression that "if it's not broken don"t fix it", so I bailed on that last item while the interior was out.

I spent the afternoon reassembling the interior and detailing the heck out of it. Every piece of plastic was washed, scrubbed and reinstalled. The carpet was vacuumed and looks amazing compared to how it looked when I got it. Im very pleased with how it turned out.

Okay the HG gasket is underway.
Here's the cruiser backed into the garage for the job.

Slow progress unfortunately. Yesterday I got the exhaust manifold off. The gasket on cylinder 3 looks pretty suspicious. That's the one that has low compression so I'm pretty sure that's the problem.

Today I got the top half of the intake manifold off. What a PITA that was. I had to remove the drivers side wheel, the starter motor, and a bunch of other crap to get to those bolts on the under side. I bought 30 inches worth of extensions to get to them. Once I got that off I was able to get the fuel injectors out and all the bolts for the bottom half off. I should have the head off tomorrow.

Yeah that seems normal with these motors to an extent. I installed a catch can/oil separator inline of the PCV hose and dump the oil out into my crank case every week.

Yeah I get about 1/8 cup a week I'd say! Seems like a lot of guys run them on here.

Head is off. Man it was a bear to lift off by myself. Probably screwed it up trying to lift it out. That's what I get for my lack of patience. It went smoothly until that point. I honestly can't tell on the gasket. No obvious signs of failure. Cylinder 3 had really low compression and 5 was somewhat low. The lack of confirmation left me deflated. I just packed everything up and put it away for the night. I'll take the head to get machined, tested, and valves done this week and hopefully put it back together next week.

Omg, you definitely need to replace that. You would be crazy to get that far and not replace it. AND how the HELL did you get the head off by yourself???!!! You must be a BEAR!!!
