I just came home with my '93 LC, 141k, got it for $6.8k. I'm an official 80 owner now!!!

Okay, a few things that are wrong with it...

1) Cruise Control is no worky (I'm a fan of CC) anyone have an estimate on this?
2) Backup light is not worky (maybe a fuse prob... have to check it out)
3) Power antenna is stuck... (doesnt come down). I can't hear the motor when I press the down antenna button.
4) Indicator light for the gears in the dash doesnt light up.
5) NO LOCKERS!!!!!    oh well! maybe my next purchase...

Going to the dealer tomorrow for fluid change and brake service. Drives nice... no rattles. Pix coming soon.

Congrats!

Prepare to bend over. I would recommend you spend the money on a Factory Service Manual and do it yourself, there are no easier jobs to do on your rig than these. For instance brake pads take all of 10 minute for front, maybe 20 min for rear, but I am betting will cost you a pretty penny at the dealer, not to mention you will probably be paying list price *plus* 20%, remember if you plan a couple days ahead you can get the same parts from Cdan for list price *minus* 25%. Just something for you to consider

Congrats on the new cruiser

Lots of PM you can do, but here are my suggestions for your specific questions:

1) Search. Tons of info on this. Very expensive to replace; probably just needs a tweak per threads on this topic.
2) Check the bulb too. If you have a trailer hitch, check the wiring that the PO did.
3) See #1
4) See #1 and #3. But the bulbs can be replaced if you're patient enough to do it.
5) Can't help you there, but join the crowd. Lots of us don't have lockers and we're still alive and well :flipoff2:

Good that you are having all the fluids swaped. You also want to see if you can get all the service records on this truck if you can from the dealer or PO. Check to see if the front axle has ever been serviced; if not, you'll probably want to check it out and/or service it soon.

There's not a lot you need to do to keep these trucks running, but there is some.

Welcome to CrusierDom.

Congrats, Welcome, and use C-Dan for parts and info.

I feel the love!!!!!

I think I'll just let dealer change fluids... and maybe a once over look and see.

The dealer from where the previous owner had this LC serviced is looking for service records as we speak(type) and will get back @ me in the a.m.

bjowett: I'll let you know as soon as I research on it.

Congrats!

Hope you won't end up spending $$$ to get the fluid(s) changes, as well as to get those things fixed. Welcome aboard! :)

What kind of service did this dealer do? Just changin' fluids? :D

Seems like they overlooked numbers 1-4, or the previous owner did not care or just did not notice. ;p ;)

Good luck!

#1 - search, lots written about quick fix. Bend over to the tune of around $1600 msrp for a new control unit. Smart shoppers a little less, but if quick fix doesn't work, you can drive a looooong way for the price of a new unit.
#2 I dunno
#3 - search on antenna motor replacement and as you are hearing frequently - shop smart!
#4 - Nobody's does on cruisers of this age - usually just the D light tho.
#5 - Oh well

Regarding dealer fluids and brakes - If I can do fronts and rear brakes - ANYONE can. Just ask Cdan and B about my mechanical ability prior to this board - zip, nada, never anything but an oil change. Outside of a gorilla putting on the bolts on the rear calipers, both front and rear brakes were very easy to do. Advice from a 1/2  mechanic.

BTW - Congrats and welcome! :flipoff2:

:flipoff2: W :flipoff2: E :flipoff2: L :flipoff2: C :flipoff2: O :flipoff2: M :flipoff2: E and all that crap. :flipoff2:

Get the fluids done so you know they are fresh, then buy the FSM and start fresh.

You'll find a great deal on parts through Cdan and a vast collection of knowledge here if you search.

Congrats and welcome.

Welcome. On your antenna. when you shut the car off, do you hear the motor? If you do, then the Nylon part of the mast is broken. Just order the mast from Cruiser Dan its less than $35. I had the same problem. No sound when pressing the up or down arrows, the antenna didn't move, but when I turned the rig off, I could hear the motor. It's a common problem.

There was apost a while back on replacing the light on the indicator. Do a search in the 80's forum.

i'd buy the FSM first and then dive in!! good luck

There's another option....TIS
go to http://techinfo.toyota.com

You can buy access to factory service info...I bought a few days' worth of access and downloaded most of the pages for the '94 in PDF format.

I will still buy a day here and there to get pages for my corolla or sequoia...their man pages seem easier to follow, but there are A LOT more pages in the newer ones.

It's nice to log on, look up a specific section and print it.

I actually prefer having just the pages I need for the current "procedure," I haven't had much break on the trail yet :)

You're assuming the 97 antenna works the same as the 93...
I don't recall when they made the change, but I do know my 94's antenna didn't drop down automatically -- it was all manual.

You're prolly right on the prognosis though :)

The Factory Servise Manual has a whole section on testing the Cruise Control from the front seat, At least the 91's manual did.
First purchase, worth the price all the way.
A new cruiser feels good Huh.
