Hello all!
Working on a 81 2h HJ47.
So I changed my oil, new filter and all and now she wont turn over. Acts like a seized engine.
And yes the starter is trying to crank. Plenty of amps.
Oil in a cylinder?

Did you maybe drain your trans fluid and double fill the oil or something like that?

Glow plugs out as you say, then crank it by hand (2 revolutions minimum) NOT the starter... I know it sounds painful but if it is hydraulically locked or there is some mechanical interference you may damage something with the starter........ if it turns ok by hand then the starter with the glows still out.....

The 2H is prone to oil filling up in the rocker cover when you pour it in.. it overflows into the throttle body by the crankcase ventilation hose and hyrdolocks cylinders.. as others have suggested.. glows out, and turn it over to clear the oil.

Well I read your post to late!
Removed the glows one at a time and cranked. I got to cyl. number four and low and behold she blew! She blew oil all over the engine compart ment! So hand crank was a good call!
It was the only cyl. with oil so I think I am back in business.
Thanks for help everybody!

Its likely the governor housing is now full of oil as well.. it would be worthing draining that too..

This little screw here is the drain screw for the governor housing. Remove it and let the oil drain out... You may need to poke a small screwdriver in or something to get it flowing out..

What can prevent this from happening in the first place or again?

Refill oil slowly..

I do one litre at a time.. with about 2-3mins in between.

Would relocating the PCV or installing a catch can assist in prevention? I gather that the oil must run out the valve cover and down the intake?

Pull the breather hose and point it upwards to prevent oil running into the intake during a fill?

Damn sneaky way of hydro locking a motor.

^^^ Agreed, I had never heard, or even considered this happening to an engine from refilling with oil!
