In general, you need gas, air, compression and spark on time for an engine to run. You have to check them all.

On hot restarts, the problem is typically flooding or air/fuel mix too rich. In this situation hold the pedal down while cranking and then let up when it starts.

I know that the jets will need to be changed out and I plan to do that once I get her going. HAC?? What does that look like and where would I find it if I have one? I assume that device would likely force more air into the carb.

MY dizzy is electronic ignition (no points). I cracked her open and it looked like there was an orange haze all over the interior of the thing. I pulled the rotor button and cleaned it up really well with a wire brush. I am going to try and loosen the dist. and follow your advise, Idave.

See Dave, I give advice and no one hears it, you say the same thing and its a good idea :bounce:

Don't worry Elk Hunter - Just having fun with my good friend. :D

Romer, IDave: Your advise Sucks :) :)

No, seriously, I tried that and no luck while using a remote start wire. Luckily my trusty mechanic is just 4 blocks away from the house. I hate giving up on stuff like this, but they are calling for several days of solid snow starting late tonite and it is 25 degrees out already (I have no garage).

I just pushed it out into the street and rolled it the entire way downhill to his shop. It was pretty funny, because I passed several neighborhood cars on the way and all of them waved at me and smiled, like "look that assh#le, he just bought yet another P.O.S."

I have to focus on the humor of it all...I'll let you know what the verdict is from my mechanic as soon as I know.

Did you use the remote starter hooked up to the Starter. Did you place the key in the On position? If not, only the starter will turn. You probably did since you already decided our advice sucks. Hey, you get what you pay for!

I think Elk Hunter just wanted to hear the same thing two or three times to be sure he wasn't wasting his time trying stuff. He's probably pretty frustrated.

I don't know anything about pointless electronic ignitions and all of that, EH, so don't take my word.

You mentioned that you have spark there, previously. Did you happen to notice how much? Normally the blue spark that jumps the gap between the plug and the wire if you hold the spark plug wire terminal off but close to the spark plug should be about 1/2 inch long.

Is the engine popping or coughing when you crank it? Try pouring a ounce or two of fuel down the carb and see if it fires for a second. And I would agree with Wolfman that the mechanical fuelpump can leak gas into the crank case. I doubt you could be running so rich that you'd fill your crank with gas... It would be comming out your exhaust

That's a good point about the mech fuel pump leaking gas into the crankcase.

If you have gas in your crankcase, I would have to join the choir: your mechanical fuel pump is failing. Wipe under the pump with a rag--does it come away smelling of gas? Maybe the gas is from all that cranking and leaking past the rings, but nine times out of ten I'd say it's a leaky pump. (Uh, regardless, change your oil! It's lubricating powers have been diminshed.)

If your fuel pump is fine, then my next guess would be the igniter--spooky things, igniters (expensive, too). It can seem fine one minute, not work the next, work fine later on, sometimes because of temperatures, sometimes because of humidity. But eventually, it will die forever.

Even if your fuel pump is leaking some, if you have gas going into your carb, and cylinders, and it doesn't fire, there is something else that is causing it not to fire.

I've been having the same problem now, I had a fuel pump that was leaking like a civ, so I replaced it, not one, but two times... I was an idiot and didn't replace the filter as well.

So, I was having the same problem, I guess that I gunked up my filter. It would crank, but never turn over, but when I would pour a little bit of fuel in my carb, it would fire just fine and run for a few seconds. I've yet to replace the filter and/or the 3rd pump, but I'm hoping that this time works

Is it possible that while you were on your trip you had got some bad gas, it you have water in your gas it will smell like gas but the flamiblity is real bad.
drain some gas out of the tank into a jar and let it sit for a while and see if it seperates, the water will be on the bottom of the jar

Sorry for chiming in late, but it may be who of you to unscrew your "fuel in" line going to your carb, and check that screen, make sure it is free of debris....

ALSO, if you smelled gas, had it in your oil, etc.. it depends on how flooded it is.

Did your dizzy get bumped, messing up your timing?
