This is a fantastic option. There's a PVC coupling that works well, but there's no doubt this would be better. Of course, there's the question of cost. Eagerly waiting to see it for sale on the website.
I think you may have misread the justification for the tool. It's not the housing bore that wears (the seal sits there and doesn't move, so it can't wear the surface), it's the driveshaft journal. Moving the seal further into the hosing bore means that the lip of the seal rests on a previously untouched area of the driveshaft journal, improving the sealing potential.I was thinking about doing my first front axle rebuild this weekend. The truck has 102,000 miles on it and the passenger side knuckle definitely has diff oil leaking into it. It has been showing mild signs of this for a few months, I have been making sure the front diff oil is full and the front knuckle is 3/4 full with grease (although it is a grease/oil soup mixture at this point), and there have been zero clicking sounds or anything other than the obvious oil leaking out of the knuckle, until recently. Last week I noticed on the colder mornings there has been a small whining noise that seems to pickup with speed coming from the front axle. This noise quickly goes away usually after less then a mile of driving.
At 102,000 miles, is it likely that the axle housing is worn and I would benefit from overdriving the seal? Or is it more likely that the housing is fine at this mileage and the seal broke from negative pressure from the stock axle breather?
Would it be wise to hold off the axle rebuild until I could get the overdrive tool? This is my daily driver so I would continue to drive it to and from work. Also since I wouldn't be under the truck this weekend I might want to take her for a 550 mile round trip that might include some mild trails

Thank you, you are correct. What I meant to ask was, at that mileage, is it likely the axle shaft has a groove worn into it and would it be wise hold off the axle rebuild until I can get one of these tools?

Due to part-time 4x4 and lockout hubs the inner axle spends much less time spinning and spinning.
@NLXTACY is this going to be a product that you have on the site for the foreseeable future or is this a "one run and done" deal? I have been gathering all the parts from @beno to do do my axle when the time comes but for now I am OK. This looks like one of those tools that will make life for us less gifted mechanics a whole lot easier and I don't want to miss out.
