Man and I just got a new one about 3 weeks ago

I was thinking the same thing. I have this broken thing hanging there for the last two years. so last Thur. I pull the trigger and order a new one and then I see this. Go figure.
I literally just bit the bullet and ordered a replacement clam shell and then this comes up

Count me in. I thought you were giving me your 60 so you could focus on the 80 stuff. :P

Cool! I assume you'll have different versions for air bag and non air bag trucks?

Totally want this! I've tried to fix my clamshell a couple of times because I'm to cheap to buy another piece of fragile plastic. You look at the thing wrong and it breaks.

something i would like to try is to put a pancake slip ring on the back side of the steering wheel for a heated steering wheel option but it needs clearance around the moulding near the signal lever. if you could find a way to add a slip ring between your housing and the wheel that would open up the possibility for other electronics on the wheel other that heaters too. something like this (they come in different sizes of openings)...

Blame @LS1FJ40 for one too many knees slamming into it. I'm starting with the 60s because I'm selfish and I want one for my 60 first before I adjust and make one for the 80s as well :flipoff2:

This is going to be a steel replacement for the plastic steering column clamshell. I am planning on security and accessory mounting options and I'm opening this up to scrutiny because I need input for what you folks would like to see as far as your needs.

The first pics are what the current design looks like. The last pics are what the old clamshell and new design look like in the same space. Nothing is set in stone.

Although this is the 60 setup, the 80 version will change accordingly.

Im in. fairly certain you already knew that tho.....

Sooooooooo -

Now @LS1FJ40 would rather bust up his patella/kneecap & pay THOU$AND$ over eating a few clamshell bills? —Something has to give, and we ain’t young fellas—

-I’m just busting on him, since my shorty-short femers mean I’m a 6’-even gorilla skeleton (thanks Dad). I’ve never broken one by egress, but I have bumped it even with my midget femers.

Before I jump on the “oh yeah, Joey - I’m buying one 110% for positives” -bandwagon (we know that story) - just for general reference what are talking ballpark $$$$ ?

I’m going to add that a shoulder to the ignition (like 1/8” tube, 3/16” length) - would be a selling point to me. It would show the casual smash-n-grab guy that he’s not going to punch the column as easily & strip an 80 offsite.

Like a armor bumper shows people intown you’re planning ahead for a little car-on-car violence, a subtle shouldered column might show a crackhead you already aren’t his crack-ticket like the Range Rover/whatever in the parking garage.

Errr, am I crazy but the ignition isn't in the clamshell he is speaking of.

Good idea, but on the non-airbag trucks (which also have the delicate clams that Joey is looking to replace) the ignition switch is in the dash, not on the column.

The problem has always been when my vertically challenged wife or daughter drive before me and have the seat crammed all the way forward.

Plus I just like cool chit!

I think it’s be a great place to mount a tablet or iPhone to be able to watch movies.
