Can we have 1 of these....... please

Actually, the airbag sensor is NOT in the bumper. It is an accelerometer under the center console, just under the PWR/2ND buttons for those of us who have them......

But hell, none of yours have airbags anyway!

Let the buyer beware.....then let the lawyer sue if you;re still alive!

I'm saying that because of the horrible litigious society we live in. I don't like it, but it only takes one........ Where's Atticus?

And lawyers will sue because the nonstock bumper crushed someone or because the nonstock bumper didn’t crumple as the original bumper was intended. Or because this that or any number of mods altered the “normal” operation of the vehicle.

Literally, every mod we make on our vehicles make them less safe.

I stand corrected on where the sensor is. But the airbag still had to inflate prior to the crushing of the steering column. Therefore rendering your argument that anything on the column is going to end up between the airbag and the driver moot.

It’s simply not plausible.

I suppose Joey to stop making the FEM-1 since someone’s feet could hit the corner of the mount and get hurt...

Well, I'm not really serious about the airbag part except when you start hanging other crap from it because it can come loose and be between you and the airbag in a collision and that's NOT where you want it. I even remove the pens from my shirt when I drive a vehicle with an airbag because of a firefighter friend telling me about the rescues he's done where the airbag caused eyeglasses to carve out part of a guy's face and the pens in the front of his shirt stabbed him in the throat for another guy because when the airbag blew, the force pushed it all back at him.

I am serious about the crush on the column though. Because the column is designed to move to one side and to crush in the event of a collision and placing a large metal box around that part will limit its ability to crush.

Mind you, I also drive a Studebaker that has no airbags, no seat belts, no ABS, a solid steering column that is literally part of the steering gear with a solid shaft (to act like a spear) so do I REALLY care? Not for mine. However, for someone who is selling these, it does need to be considered. That's why I brought it up. But it DOES have a 3/4" thick pad on the bottom edge of the dash for a "knee rail"............

I know, you've spent a small fortune on these. I would be more inclined to get some 3D printed or similar before I made one out of steel.
I don't see how having a metal column cover will hurt anything. The steering shaft telescopes in a collision. But the column stays still and needs to be ridged so that it can handle the impact of a person slamming into it and the force of the airbag deployment. Underneath the plastic column cover is just a bunch of steel anyway. I would agree it's not smart to hang anything underneath the column. I have never seen a column designed to move to the side. Otherwise the airbag would blow off to the side and improperly catch the driver and possibly snap the drivers neck.

It would have to be powder coated and an exact color match to the rest of the plastic surrounds on my Lexus. I shan't have any non-matching colors. The boys at the country club would scoff at me.

Serious?! In this most recent batch?!
Dude, my 10 year old texted me today to say a package arrived and could she open it (im in Vietnam on business). if there isn't a sticker in the box one of us is gonna get bitch slapped...:(

I'm pretty lucky (little legs) :D, but cracked one removing the steering wheel, so will keep an eye on this, just a thought though, there may be differences between LHD and RHD?

Regards

Dave
The stalks are reversed on RHD.
