I installed a new rear bumper that required cutting the last part of the exhaust off including the resonator. I noticed before I did this there was a slight whistle under acceleration. Now it is really whistling. A friend has a 97 LX with the exhaust still intact and his does the same. Anyone figure out what the whistling is?

Really?

Uh,

Doooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood, this has been talked about soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many times. Search for resonator or whistle.

you moderators are all the same. You have to watch the man.

Just givin you some grief BMT, but seriously, this topic seems to get covered extensively every few weeks. Enough so that as soon as I saw the title, and I'm sure many others knew the same, that it was related to your resonator and the removal of it.

Your exhaust will whistle with the resonator some, but more without it.

I've gone to a new exhaust (custom) and now have no whistle and no resonator.

A little more exhaust whistle could be cool...

I've already got the ricer kids at school thinking I have a turbo from the whine the 1fzfe produces...

I think I just got twin turbos... :D

I know your just giving me...well...grief. I found several threads pertaining to the whistle. Thanks for the heads up. Looks like it is time for a cat back. I wonder if I should post a thread on that?

I had the dreaded whistle, I bolted in a new oem center section/main muffler($300), whistle gone. The resonator wasn't the source in my case.

Is it whistlin Dixie?

Buck

"Dreaded"?
nope...
I love mine, a most worthwhile mod! :D

Maybe someone welded whistle tips on when you weren't looking. WHOOOOOOOOO WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D:D:D:D:D :flipoff2:

It's like you gotta have the noise man...

WHOOOOO! WHOOOOOOOOO!

All them people complainin' the noise is wakin' em up shouldn't be sleepin anyways, they should be up cookin some bacon or sumpthin...

It's like the WOOOOO! man, WHOOOOO WHOOOOO!

Throw away the trash can muffler and get a nice MagnaFlow tucked up safely between the frame rails. Sure, the OEM is warrantied forever, but the whistle is easily cured forever with Brand X, and no can edges are left to drag mud :)

Just make sure you get one large enough to avoid ressonation at highway speeds or your wife will try to kill you. Ask me how I know.
