I have a 1970 with a 2f conversion that I am building. My 1970 wiring harness looks ok but it needs an overhaul. What harness and distributor recommendations do you have?
Repair your stock harness, what year 2F? FJ60 ignition is pretty solid.

I think there's someone selling a wiring harness from that era in the classified section. No affiliation.

I'm thinking that the factory 2F harness used in a '70 is a poor fit. I doubt this is going to be plug-and-play with ordered parts. There is too much smog in it, and the alternator is on the wrong side of the engine bay. More information about the situation might be helpful, but, mods, additional circuits, and repairs are not out of the question.

It would be best to track down a '79 harness. I put a '78 2F in my '70 40 and was fortunate to use the harness as well. I did use the '70 ignition so I could use my original big key.

I am deleting all of the pollution control equipment (can do that here in Pa). Does that change your opinion? Thank you!

With desmog, no need to swap the entire harness.

Currently running a late 2F in both a ‘69 and ‘72 with FJ60 Ignition on their stock harnesses.

The reason I did it was for the plug and play easiness.

Just the dimmer and turn signal switches alone - huge differences in harness layout between a '70 and '79. Just the types of connectors is going to be interesting. There are no back-up lamps on a '70, iirc.

I considered desmoging my harness. It had been partially chewed by pack rats. I realized that it was going to remove a considerable amount of bulk to the loom. I decided to keep it with the smog circuits so that it didn't change shape. I look back on it, and I'm really thinking that was a good move, just for the aesthetics of the computer on the firewall, etc.

The big hang-ups in building a harness is the pattern of the loom (where is it, and how long of what gauge/color), and the receiving connector to the switch, part, lamp, etc.. Translating a wiring diagram to a harness lay-out map isn't impossible, but it requires attention to detail. If you can get all this straightened out, you are half of the way there. The next step is carefully building the repaired section or entire harness with skill and quality components. Don't underestimate the value in being able to make it top-quality, rather than just functional.

I bought a complete harness from eBay seller hern76ca. Besides one connector having a swapped wire and I think one bad crimp it was plug and play with original colors, correct connectors, etc. it took him a while to build it.
Not sure if you were interested in that or if he builds that year but you could inquire.

I remade a whole new harness from mine using the correct color wires. I had it all laid out and measured and copied my original harness and added things I needed for my Cruiser. Turned out great and looks good too!
