Hey guys,

Just curious if anyone knows what the part number is or what the part is called for the plastic retaining clip that holds the wiper linkage to the motor. Also if if someone knows if it is the same as a BJ-70??? Lastly if someone has a picture of how it is suppose to look and can post it that would be great!! It is an 88 BJ-74.

Apparently we had frost last night. I started my truck and turned on the wipers to clear the windows and clunk ... the wipers woudl worked... they were froze to the window. I freed them up but unfortunately the damage had already been done.

I then pulled the wiper motor and saw the linkage was no longer connecter the the motor. I also found 3 plastic pieces that I assume used to be some sort of retaining clip. Also the rubber boot is split apart pretty good as well. If anyone has such a thing they want to sell let me know as well and I wil porbably buy directly from you rather than going to toyota.

Thanks,
Todd

Pretty strait forward, the plastic duhicky goes into the round hole on the linkage, the pall on motor or arm snaps into this plastic retainer.

Broke many dissassembling cruisers.

I am looking in the EPC and I don't see a part number for it. So.... it probably either comes with the arm assembly, or the wiper motor - i bet the arm assembly. Toyota is weird about that, sometimes you have to buy a big piece to get a little piece.

Try 85160-90k04

I'd just email G and S to see what they have.

Regards

i am stripping a BJ74 so if you still need that part, and greg or sheldon do not have it, then email me at:
wayne@crushersrule.com

Thanks Guys!

Crushers I will check with toyota in the morning to see what they want for the part and if it is cheaper than what shipping will be from Alberta I will go with Toyota. However if they want a stupid amount of money for a peice of plastic and rubber boot I will pop you an email. Our club gets 20% off at toyota so the prices typically work out to be good.

Thanks,
Todd

I believe we have a box full of arms and such. Sheldon is the man when it comes to knowing all the little things he has placed in boxes on the shelf. He is gone with Stone for few days, casting the fly.

Thanks Greg, not sure I can wait that long, we are getting hit hard with rain right now so I can't drive my truck. I have an email into crushers, if Wayne can't get it out to me before Sheldon gets back I will contact you guys.

Also Louis, do you have a picture of the wiper motor area so I can see exactly what I am trying to get? Since my plastic piece essentially disintegrated I would like to see what it looks like?

Thanks,
Todd

The parts breakdown doesnt show a picture of it, thats why I figure it just comes with the link assembly. You are welcome to come over and look at my trucks if you want but I dont think that'll do you much good.

I am wondering if the same part is used on other toyotas? Maybe try a wrecking yard, you might be able to get what you are looking for.

I guess we should buy a parts truck eh:)

Good Luck

Hey Louis, A parts truck would be good. I need a few things now, sun visor, gove compartment latch etc... Just a couple of annoying little things breaking.

Anyway I have sent an email to Crushers and I will buy it from him. Frustrating to buy a complete wiper assembly just to replace a piece of plastic

Oh well... All part of the joy of owning a Cruiser

as long as you don't mind white, Ens sells take off visors for $10 each (i think). i didn't have a clean one or i would have included it in the package.

yes, it is a rip to have to buy the entire transmision for a plastic piece... but that is the way Toyota designed it.

cheers

Thanks Wayne for getting the part shipped so quickly to me and for incluidng the latch for my glove box. hopefully the rain holds off for a couple of more days :D

I went non-plastic in my wiper to motor attach. the plastic is just too brittle.

I used aluminum and made a plate and secured with the circlip. if it doesn't hold I am welding a rod end to the rod and machining the motor area to be threaded and then I can bolt on the rod end.

the plastic is defiantely the weak link.

for a visual on how the plastic sits, pull the other cover, just don't disturb that one, otherwise it will be broken as well, I know that too!

Where were you yesterday before I bought the complet wiper assembly from Wayne???

If all of my plastic is missing will your application still work?? If so maybe I will get a set from you just in case for future potential use??

Thanks,
Todd

I don't spend much time in the international forum but lately I've been trying explore to areas of MUD besides 60/62s and chit chat :)

My fix does require part of the plastic bearing. The linkages that I've seen broken have all been the plastic seperating from the metal arm. The fix clip holds the plastic in place without the flimsy plastic washer on the other side. PM me if interested.

i saw a similar plastic clip on the 'Help' section board of generic parts at my local parts store

I'm having a helluva time with my wipers on my JDM 1986 BJ70 over the years. The plastic bushing broke and I had it rigged with zip ties which have failed. I have tried to install an entire new linkage. I bought one set on Ebay that ended up being too short. Then I ordered a set after calling CruiserParts (Part 85160-90K00). This seems to be the correct part number, they came up with it independently from my research.

This part still appears to be too short. I can connect the linkage to the motor, but then the motor stalls out and gets jammed. It really appears that the linkage is too short to deal with the full rotation of the motor. The install seems pretty straight forward unless I'm doing something boneheaded (possible). Anyone have an issue with part numbers or a replacement being too short? Any advice for things to check to make sure I'm installing correctly?

My HDJ81 is down for some major surgery and need to DD this in the meantime...thanks!

I never understood why Toyota wouldn't just sell that damn plastic bushing by itself. The one on the FJ73 I had broke not long after I got it from the seller and when I opened it up to replace it, I could tell that there was previous attempts to repair it. It can be tricky to install too.

Fortunately the seller managed to get me three of those plastic bushings by themselves from cruiserparts which I don't have anymore. There is no part number I am aware of for just those plastic bushing clips. You have to buy the entire linkage if that little plastic piece breaks.

The correct RHD and LHD wiper linkages are available new OEM. FYI.
