I've had the 80 for a year and a few months. It has 154k on it now.
I fully flushed the tranny before last winter, and installed a new radiator.
Before this winter I'm installing new spark plugs, rotating tires, oil change, and tightening the ft guard in the exhaust cause it's loose.
Should I flush the radiator again, and flush the transmission again? What about the brake fluid?
Did I miss anything?
Not sure what the PO did...

PS I need to repack the birf's, but that will have to wait awhile...

the coolant can go 2 years just fine, just check the concintration with a coolant tester, only thing I will be doing specifically for winter is changing to a thinner oil as I run heavy oil in the summer, might want to consider a good synthetic for your cold NY winter starts

hmmm, I've seen the high milage oil on the market. Any suggestions as to what kind?

I'm a little concerened with any crap building up in the radiator, after reading posts in the past few weeks about it thought I should get it flushed again.

Do a search on username Cary and you will find an overwhelming amount of oil data. I use 0w40 full synthetic in my truck no matter the time of year. Don't have a whole lot of faith in any of that high mileage oil.

raven, what weight do you use in the summer, and what in the winter?

I don't have synthetic oil anywhere in the truck. I'm a little afraid of leakage if I replace it at this point in the life of the vehicle...

Pat, do you have a block heater?
Cheers,
Sean

Leakage is an old wifes tale. Go with Mobil 1 0w-40. If you have consumption problems with the Mobil 1, try Shell Rotella Synthetic T 5w-40.

Read the whole story here and in the links,
https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=22478

Was using synthetic 5w40 this summer, running 15w50 right now, have 3k on it, think I am going to switch to 0w40 when it gets cold or I hit 4k witch ever comes first

In Jacksonville I would think you could get away with a slightly thick oil all year round or with heavy stuff in the summer if you like,

picking viscosity is not easy

My winter agenda:

Do any maintenance that will need to be done during the winter so I'm a little ahead of things like oil changes to avoid doing them when it's freezing outside. Whatever your vehicle needs.

Clean and spray the door seals with silicone to prevent stuck doors in extreme cold.

Wax the body so the winter grundge does less to it.

New wiper blades

Change washer fluids to winter deice style and fill them.

Toss a tow strap, shovel and a few powerbars in a box with other items to keep in the back.

Put the winter floormats in (thick ribbed rubber by Cannon in UK)

Remove any roof racks or attachments.

Scrapers and snowbrush in car.

Rain-x all windows and outside mirrors.

Pint of isopropyl alchohol in the fuel tank in the fall (or buy HEET for 3x the cost).

When the snow actually flies, on go the winter tires/rims and we're off......

As to your plugs etc listed above, you should also do the rotor and cap.

You can bypass this step if you already have 50% Methanol in the jar for "other reasons"............:D

Yooo talkin' 'bout moonshine, boy??

DougM

Nope,

The washer jar be my reservoir for my water/Methanol injection......:D

Ah, I see, Grasshopper. Plenty of capacity there, eh?

MTNRAT, no I don't have a block heater. I'm currently building a 3 car garage to keep the cold off the truck.Doug, you must live in the north east ....
Thanks all, I'll switch to synthetic this oil change.

putting aynthetic in the differential and the t-case will save you some fuel this winter, also protect the gears better. As for the tranny it could be a good call to help protect the tranny also. Just do a drain and fill wtih Synthetic a couple of times and all will be good until spring. I wish I had the big block hear also but a little one will do. later robbie

Robbie, your in co. Are you a skier?

I skied Breckenridge last winter. Got pulminary (sp) ademia.
But skied like a champion until then...

From what I understand Robbie prefers snowboarding.
Cheers,
Sean

That project is on my list too.
