Has anybody modified their window switches to work when the truck is turned off? Any idea what this would take?

It would be nice to be able to easily roll windows down/up when sleeping inside without having to climb up front to turn on the ignition.

Install a remote access, that turns the engine on, then you can roll the windows down. Then open the door to turn the engine off. Simple :)

The only issue, though remote with rolling the window down without the ignition is security. Otherwise I am no help as it is pretty easy with the comfort access to hit the button, adjust the window from the driver side and turn it off again.

You can roll them down without the engine or ignition on from the fob, as long as it's programmed to allow it. It rolls all of them down and opens the sunroof though. But you can't roll them back up that way.

I remember using a coat hanger to unlock my parents old Dodge with the "golf tee" style door locks on the top of the door sill. Pretty sure you don't want this ability enabled on a normal occasion. i.e. You park at the mall or in a garage in the city, and then someone fishes a coat hanger over the glass and presses down on the window switch to roll it down. Once the window is down they can just unlock the truck and get inside.

As others note you can roll them down by holding the unlock button for a few seconds if you've programmed that in techstream, but you can't roll them up that way. Also when you first turn the truck off you can roll them up or down for a few seconds until you open the doors.

I would guess there's no easy way to change this. The window functions are part of the body control module, IIRC. I think if you tried to trick the BCM into thinking the truck was still on you'd have a whole host of other issues (like auto headlights never turning off).

Yeah, I was considering that, I do have a compustar remote start, I was just hoping to be able to do it without starting the engine

hm probably the only thing that cames into my mind without powering the rest of the system would be some parallel wiring to the window motor with a switch. But I don’t know if then the power of will still work bc in many cases that is done somwhere in one of the ECUs by measuring the drawn power of the motor and sometimes its done directly in the motor.
Thats something you may have to check.

The other and easiest option would probably be a stick with which you can reach the start button. Then you don't have to crawl forwards.... 😂😂

On most vehicles the window regulator / motor sees the spike in current and stops the motor....so in theory Id think you could simply supply power to it and it would work as intended. Could even have a switch in the back or wherever is convenient.... I assume some diodes or something may be needed to keep it 'one-way' when powering.
