Window felt source? Digging but not finding:/

Hey all. Plugging away here. Trying to find a source for window felt for all my windows. I have exactly ZERO!

I recall a thread on here a while ago with someone that had some universal/generic window felt in a metal-track they cut and mounted themselves. Since I'm more of a function-over-fashion guy, I would be happy with this option vs. OEM/showroom.

Any help will be MOST appreciated!

I used the list of JC Whitney stuff in the link above for all 4 doors and have had excellent results

edit: felt and rubber. The rubber for the rear doors needs to be cut at the bottom mid-point, as it is a little too tight and will pull out of the plastic tabs

I've poured through that Weatherstrip Thread a number of times, but I swear every time I search JC Whitney for the felt part # I get nothing. Are those links/#s still good?

For the inner door seal that mounts to the body, I bought the SOR version. Perfect length but as you might expect, it is generic and so around corners it kind of sucks.:frown:

I hear you about the SOR door version too (I've read that observation multiple times). I tried the NAPA door seal and it looked like it would work great...except it only comes in 10' strands:( It's a good 3-feet short:(

Jon, do you recall which style it is you went with? This is the image panel that comes up under that part #, but obviously there are some options.

Same goes here for the rubber window channels. Lots of options, which is great, but almost too many for someone who never saw the OEM stuff to begin with. Thanks Jon!

#2 and #9 look like winners for the body-weatherstripping that goes on the pinch weld. Would you guys agree? I think it even comes in 25' rolls which is a MUCH better per foot price than NAPA/Baxters (which only sells it in 10' sections).

Thanks again guys. Once I get all this knocked out, it'd probably be worth linking to the weatherstrip thread for an update there don't you think?

I believe these are the SKU/Manf.# for the door weatherstripping...

Weather stripping has been an ongoing issue for me for the past month. Cabe Toyota carries the upper glass run for the tailgate and the cargo window rubbers. As far as I'm concerned, they are the best money can buy. Good stuff.

So far I have placed two orders with JC Whitney. Some things I am happy with and some I am not.

1JA 184879 - is what the weather stripping thread suggested for the door glass runs. The pieces inside the door that the glass runs up and down in. It fit perfectly for me and looks great.

1JA 193480 - was suggest for the window belt. Both inside and outside. When I got it, I had to scratch my head for a minute because it is felt only, No wiper blade to keep water from running down the outside of the window and inside your door. I cut one strip and fit it for the inside and it looks / works great.

1JA 819752 - is what I went back and bought for the outside window belt. It was also suggested later on in the stripping thread. Has a nice wiper on it to keep water out of the door and in my opinion really looks nice on the door.

1JA 132562 - is what was suggested for the door body trim. I am very unhappy with it and will be replacing it with some other option. It works great if you have a Sumo wrestler who can hip check the door closed but otherwise it's just too much and the door will not close. Trollhole has a section where he tried a bunch of different pieces so I need to go back and read through that since this stuff does not work. At least it doesn't work for me.

Hope this helps a little. Weather stripping is a lot of work and the info here on Mud has been a real life saver. :cheers:

Do you recall the quantities and cost on all of the items above? PM me if you got it, which will make ordering mine super easy. I may pull the trigger and order up as much weatherstripping for the whole thing as I can. I have nightmares that the sources for all of this stuff will dry up by the time I need to have it on hand.

Could I trouble you for some pics of how the inner and outer felts look once installed? My memory of my Pig is the inner and outer felts look really similar.

The Pig uses the same little metal clips as a 40 to hold the window felts to the door, correct? Did the pieces you ordered come pre-drilled for the clips? Or did you have to drill holes? Or did you use some other means (adhesive or other) to affix them to your doors?

Thanks for your help! My felts are toast, prob time I did something about them...
 
Sure, I can grab a pic or two of what I did. I think originally the two felts for the door belt may have been the same but it didn't make a lot of sense to me. Didn't put this much time into the machine so that water could freely run down the window and into the door. That's why I went to a piece that has a wiper on it to seal up the outside of the window a bit better.

The door uses those 11411 clips that everyone talks about. I managed to salvage a few off of the old stripping but had to buy some new ones as well. Everybody says to buy them from "Restoration Specialities". Problem is they want $1.50 ea. You can special order a box of 100 pcs from Fastenal for around $12.00. The 11411 isn't an exact duplicate though and has to be clipped a little to work. I have installed anything with one yet so it's still a work in progress.

Nothing came pre-drilled. I used the old worn out stripping and back drilled into the new stuff. It has work out so far.
