part II
it drives nice.. when I am in it, I am feeling for so much, does it sound right is that a steering twitch how are the brakes feeling!!!! . I am making an appointment to get it aligned this week I think the saginaw is masking the fact that it is toed in to much. I can see how the lower 1st gear of the h55 I have coming will be nice especially with the 4.11 gearing and 33's it will work out nice when I find those ellusive 34x10.5"s in an at/mt tire as well
power is there but I am not used to a stick shift so its takin me a bit to find the sweet spots
things like not shifting into 3rd and just running it out in 2nd when going from stop sign to stop sign in my neighborhood.
I still haven't gotten the idle where I want it but its close and driveable
the suspension is nice not quite as smooth as I thought it would be but I am not sure if thats more of me fighting the ruts in the road or the ride of the suspenstion. I have a good alignment shop a couple blocks from me so i want to have them check caster as well just to have all that looked at.
but even with all that I still have agrin from ear to ear when I drive it :D

This is one cool land cruiser.. Wish I had the space for a project like this!

she is in for alignment should get her back this afternoon. tuned the idle a bit last night every day things get a bit more refined. working on speaker boxes do not want to cut the door panels...ever...

I did this all in a 2 car garage i wish it was bigger and I wish i did not have to share it with the garden tools and now the family's bikes but some how i made it work and have built a nice shop up around it in t he process. i have seen guys work wonders in 2 car garages. I think that is the limit but i know a few 1 holers that are turning out some nice projects.

that all said i lived with out a garge for a looooong time . to long

I wish it were that simple. i live in a historic zone . so I have to go before the zoning committee. then apply for a building permit have the site surveyed then if I have more than 20% lot coverege i have to apply for a variance which then my neighborhood has to be invited for a new zoning board meeting....this is all for a 5x5 tool shed. if you want to go bigger than that god help you.
i am ok with what i have for space. I also have my whole basement which i have built shelving for parts and more parts.

no up off of Broadway near the Hospital. we have the distinction of having the oldest farm house on the island at the end of our street. 1640's vintage. most houses in our neighborhood are turn of the century but that one house changes everything :(

In 98 i was working for the local newspaper but have been at the war college since 99. 6 months so swos or justice school? there were a couple of navy guys that lived off of Rhode Island Ave that had a couple of fj40's a green one and a tan one were you one of them? I had a green fj40 during that time frame
jason

I had the green one, Tom, my roomate had a mustard one. I gave a factory roll bar hoop to someone I think had a green FJ40, so they could make a family cage out of it?

I was at SWOS, so 6 months in the winter time in Newport. Not as fun and nice as the summer.

ok Brett I remember you now I talked your ear off on a number of occassions :) and that was me that got the roll bar and used it for a family cage. i had that 40 for 9 years before I got a fj62 and now selling the fj62 and transitioning into the lv.

you are originally from MA right. do you get to this side of the world anymore?

GW is around fell on some tough times was bouncing back I keep trying to nudge him into restoring his fj40 he still has his horde of parts to eventually restore it. he started running his own boats ending up with 2 or 3 and spent all his time keeping them from sinking and trying to make money at the same time.

Damn, good memory! Just south of Boston.

I havent been back in a few months, but going to head back sometime in the next couple months. May have to check out the 45lv, and get some inspiration to get mine moving...

Nice looking FJ40!

I wish I still had that fj40. when ever you are in the area drop me a line. fogblanket@gmail.com

I started daily driving the lv this week it goes from my garage to the parking garage here at work, but I am around most of the time. I remember other cruiser related facts too, its a diesease I think. as I remember you were swapping in your lockright to 4 wheel, and supplying most of your class with land cruisers, a red fj60 and you later had an fj55... but ask me to pick you out of a line up forget it :)

youre lucky. I have to keep my drivers license on me to remember where I live.

When I am back home I will def. have to stop in and check it out!

I had the fJ55 the second time I was in newport, which would have been for two months or so around march of 2000.

i realized in our club's chat section that i have not taken any pictures of the lv in quite some time.
I am into my 3rd week of it being my sole daily driver and while still working the kinks out it is fun to drive. i took some pics this moring before they started nuking hte roads with salt. not alot has been done to the outside since my last pics were taken. except maybe the fj40 antenna. and the new tires.
i added a factory gloove box grab handle to the ift gate in tthat I could not get it to open. looks ok but is very functional.
the inside has had a ton of wiring and little fixes here and there. i got a set of $OR fj60 floor mats with the rubber on the bottom side. comes with a rear passenger peice as well. they fit farely well and do the job.

not to worry about the salt. we get about 3 storms a year here on the coast. and the lv stays in her garage until its gone. i used to love to bang around in my fj40 in the snow but not so much anymore.

that said though I did not build a show peice so this truck will get driven, taken care of , but driven. thats just hte way i roll with cruisers. while it is my daily driver . i ride my bike to work most days so it really only sees about 40 miles a week if even.
