Ok, I think I got the clitxh taken care of but had a breke cylinder leacking. I bought a repair kit from NAPA but the cylimder cups were too small so I found so.w from Dorman that fit a 5/8 bore. I replaced all I cohld get too, however, 2 of the wheels I cannot get the bleed acrew open. bolts are too close. (picture) anyone else run into this? When I bleed a cylinder the peddle goes to the floor easily and is very slow to return.

Your paint job looks about like the one on my 74. Dark grey over the original paint?

It is flat black primer over the origional yellow, I believe. We are at least the third owner. Someone painted it black to hide the rust, it looks like. When all is done she will ne the sand color.

ok, I have not tried that yet. How hard is it to find replacment plugs. I'm sure more than one are pretty well rounded off.

a socket wont fit aroung the the nut. Neither will a line wrench. the open end wrenches slip. Going to try to heat it up tomorrow.

Hope you can make it to the Bako rally on April 29 at the North Bakersfield Toyota Dealership. Lots of parts for sale, trade, whatever. Also lots of good info from fellow cruiser heads.

I plan on being there,
Will bring the Fj40 if I can get the brakes back to working. I've been looking forward to it. This will be the first one I've been able to get to.

If you find you are getting into a project trying to salvage the old wheel cylinders,
new cylinders are about $20 each from Rockauto.
It may be less trouble in the long haul just to bolt in new ones.

I'm starting to think that will be the way to go. Do I need to get the same 1 5/8 bore size?
