Hi Guys,

I'm looking at new a pair of wheels and tires, and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me whether this combination will fit my FJ62. Will I need 1" spacers? The wheels have a backspacing of 4.5". I have no experience with this. I have OME 2.5" lift.

Image of wheel and tire specs.

Thanks!

you will need a 1" wheel spacers. (stock is 3.5") if you can find the correct bolt pattern with that rim.
Also, if tire size is still not set in, you'll be able to fit a 33" tire with your ome lift. a common metric 33 is a 285/75R16.

Should work....4.5-4.65 BS is perfect.

I have a hard time (personally) agreeing with XD's on a 25 year old truck though...
But you know what opinions are like...and everyone's got one.

Yeah, I know. These seemed to be the most conservatively designed. I just want simple 16x8 matte black wheels. If you can recommend a similar wheel that can be shipped to me (Chicago) quickly, I would appreciate it. I've been looking on Amazon, since I get free 2-day shipping with my prime membership. robustbambi says I need 1" spacers for wheels with 4.5" backspacing.

That wheel part # XD12268012700 via Google brings up a wheel that is 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern. You need 6 on 5.5

Thanks for catching that, theron . You're absolutely right. The wheels I linked had the wrong bolt pattern. I've found the same ones with the correct bolt pattern.

The tire size is not set. I'm afraid of 33" tires putting excessive wear on the automatic transmission. My car has 230,000 miles on it, and I don't want to prematurely burn out the transmission. That said, I live in a flat area, not Colorado. Do you I can get away with 33" tires on a stock ratio FJ62?

Thanks for all the help, guys. I appreciate it!

Yes you'll be alright with stock gears and 33s with the 62. Many people do that. I've been doing it for the past 1.5 years. But which ever tire size you choose, adding a transmission cooler is always a good idea.

And I'm not sure what the XDs look like, but stock fzj80 rims are 16x8, correct lug pattern, and a 4.5" BS. They're what I'm running with spacers. They're not the best looking rim, but they are pretty cheap, work well, and are relatively easy to find locally for most places.

Edit: I see you found the rim in the 6 on 5.5 lug pattern. Now just make sure the rim will actually fit over the front hub. I'm not quite sure what size diameter the hub is, but the rim is bored to 86mm. That may be big enough?

The hub bore on the XD's is 108 millimeters according to Amazon's technical details. I've purchased a transmission cooler, but I'm waiting for the summer to hook it up. It's been a cold winter.

I've been wanting 33" tires, so your comment is all the rationalization I need. My only concern has been for the transmission.

Is there a difference in quality between brands of wheel spacers? Would something generic like this be okay? And, would be it acceptable to get 1.5" spacers instead of 1", making the backing 3" instead of 3.5"? I only ask because 1.5" 6x5.5" spacers seem more prevalent than 1" spacers.

I went with Eagle Alloys 100 on my 60. The backspacing is 3.625, so no need to run spacers. There are a couple of posts about them in the big wheel/tire thread. I got mine from Amazon with free shipping, but they don't seem to be listed there anymore.

Cool. Yeah the larger bore makes sense since its a different lug pattern.

A 1.5" spacer will be fine.the wheels will just stick out of the fenders a tiny bit more. And generic spacers from eBay or somewhere are probably alright, but I got an "actual" brand (spider trax) because they're blue and supposed to be te best.

Edit: Just saw that the spacers you're looking at are $130!! That's pretty expensive for spacers, trailgear, or spidertrax are $30-$40 cheaper.

Edit again: just searched and the hub is 106mm, so your XD rim selection will work... If that hasn't already been decided haha.

Whoops....so sorry. I made a mess of that response, factually speaking.

3.5 to 3.65 is what I was thinking. I base this off the 15x10 Mickey Thompson Classic Locks that my buddy has on his 60 (that fit perfectly)...and I didn't even notice the lug pattern mistake, just assumed you'd go with the 6 x 5.5.

I just recently saw some of the M/T Classic Locks in matte black...

not quite the right size though - not as many offered sizes as the regular silver ones...

Those Spidertrax spacers look pretty slick. They're also cheaper and seem quality. Thanks a lot for the suggestion! I don't mind the wheels sticking out a little bit, so long as the calipers and other equipment clears!

I also had the Eagle 100 series wheels on my 62 for about a year and they were excellent. Direct fit with no modifications required. If you want to see some mounted pictures check my profile.

Good luck!

Very nice! I was expecting some flatbiller type rims, but that setup is gonna look great. And you'll really like the KM2s. Good choices :)

I just had an alignment performed, and tires and wheels look great! Thanks for all the help, everyone!

so the wheels are 8 * 16, and mounted up and work with no need for wheel spacers.... what was the back space on the wheels again? I did see the link but I did not see the BS defined.

I think he did end up going with 1.5" spacers - they are listed on the screen cap of his order...
