Grind off the head and drill it out then tap it. I had to do it on seven of mine If you take your time they will back out most of the time.

Thanks for the support and the advice!

I'll try to tap them out as you suggest. Here are pics of the finished inner fender fabrication

I am in the process of restoring my fj55 that seems to have the same problems as your fj has but i have no way of getting parts like the rockers, seems to me that i have the only Pig in Cda. i am useing this a my senior project, and was wondering what kind of welder you are using

... with stock hubcaps (if I can find em)??

Want a set? I have some here and I can drop them off next time I'm past you.

If Lee777 turns you down, you can always drop them off here next time you pass by! ;)

If I pass by!! Lee is about 2 hours away and I pass by his place every week or two. If he doesn't want them I can bring them down if I end up going past you.

Charles,

\thanks so much for the offer Charles;)

Sure, I would love to have them!

I put some more work into the front clip. Wow, i had no idea how many holes there were. I think Im up to about 9 patches thus far and Im not even onto the other side. At times I wonder why am I putting so much work into something that is not visible, but on the other hand, I will probably never have the front clip out again, to have it so accessible. Also, its vital to supporting the fenders. I have to get this thing on the road but at the same time Im having a hard time cutting corners ;(

Im pretty lucky this week to have gotten about 7 hours of welding in. i was on a roll tonight but I ran out of wire (argh) , oh well i guess I can use a break.

Im just so excited to be working on this project again.

What do you mean "break"? It's time to do that disc swap!!

Dang! So close! And with B.C. being practically right next door to Albuquerque...... :D

I figured with you living in "CruiserDan's" back yard it's only right to give them to those who are not so close to the parts man of the Land Cruiser world.

I might have two extra sets of the front caps. If I do you can get the second set.

No worries. If I can't find 'em locally, I think SOR still has them.

Sounds like I need to meet this "CruiserDan"........

I should have known. I've been buying 'Cruiser and pickup parts from Dan and Jim Elsen at AmToy for years. Great guys and yes, very knowledgeable. Plus, their eyes don't glaze over when I answer "1969" to the question, "What year Land Cruiser?"

Dan literally works in my "backyard". I can't QUITE see AmToy from here at work, but if I squint real hard...........

Thanks CG!

Made some progress today. The entire front clip has been patch welded to eliminate all holes. As well the inner fender apron on both sides has been refabricated. There was some serious rust along the front clip cross member which took some extra time to patch over. However after its painted, water should be kept from collecting in the cross member. Currently Im test fitting the front clip with the fenders as I have to weld on bolts in many areas to replace broken fender bolt/nut attachment. Once this is done It will go to paint... which will be very exciting... to see a nicely painted finished product!

Im planning to paint the lower part to of the engine bay and the rest of the front clip with black POR15. The engine bay will be painted with white gloss rust paint. Where the front clip attaches to the firewall, the firewall has a flange of sheet metal, Im going to have to patch weld/reinforce some of this. It will get por15'd as well.

With the front clip off, i got a good view of the front DS and PS body mount which has to be refabbed or replaced with a donor. So while the front clip will be a finished piece, it wont be going back on permanently for a while since having it off makes it much easier to get at the DS/PS floor pans and body mounts.

I'll post some pics of the front clip when it has been painted. I probably logged about 16 hours of welding on this piece but ive noticed that im getting more efficient at welding :)

Good I saw this thread! It reminded me to pack the hub caps. Two new ones and two old ones. We'll see you in the morning.

Can't wait to see pics of how your front clip turns out!
