well dont we kinda have a "monopoly" on slee's business? Who does business with christo that isnt a member of the forums? Maybe a lot of people, I dont know, if not, we could start a consumer union and low ball Slee. :flipoff2:

I am using jimmy joints at the frame end and bushings at the axle end. bushings are larger than stock and offer more deflection.

That's what I was hoping to hear, all makes sense now. I was trying to figure out how you were getting any flex w/ the Jimmy joints at the axle connections........

I ran the very difficult Poweline Trail yesterday with the sway bars removed. VERY NICE difference. It has more traction unlocked, less body fling, and overall was a nice plus. The sway bars are NOT going back on. I guess I'm done now with the 80. What a sweet off-roader. The 100 is staying at home and the 80's going to Moab. :)

Damn...I just had the thought....crap....what if I took the swaybars off the 100?

You would have a mall cruiser that swayed? :D
 
This whole topic is one that early Ford owners and Land Rover owners have battled for years. If you take a look at the early bronco community, many people looking for more articulation started making a hinged wrist on one of the radius arms. While this did free up a lot of flex, it also made tippy situations disastrous. It goes back to an earlier post of balancing front and rear flex. Make the front too flexy and it does all the work. So, back to the bronco subject.....many people then started using longer radius arms which kept the vehicle balanced while freeing up a lot of articulation. I don't have much experience with the 80 series, but like any radius type arm, if you lengthen it and use flexible joints, that is about the best you will get. It still won't flex like a 4 link or 5 link, but it will be greatly improved over stock. The best way I can describe the inherent bind in radius arms/y arms is to grab a broom or mop (anything straight) and hold it out in front of you, parallel with the ground, gripping with your hands shoulder width apart. The object you are holding represents the axle, and your arms are the radius arms. If you keep your wrists locked, try simulating the "flexing" of the axle. Try using your elbows first as the pivot points and then use your entire arm. You will see how lengthening the "radius arm" increases axle movement. While you keep your wrists locked, you will no doubt see how there is binding because there is no joint of any type to allow the axle to "rotate" in relationship to the arm. Hard to describe but I hope you get the picture. With my '75 Bronco, I have found that lengthening the radius arms gives the best bang for buck. If you have the money to spend, nothing will beat a well designed 3, 4, or 5 link.

Just scanned some pics of "Miller” Thought this might test to the removal of the sways for those who don't believe... I think once most "un-sway" they will be more than happy with the flex and not need anything further. I say "Most People"; there are those who will venture further...

On a side note for safety sake... The second pic is of a situation that could have been really bad. If you do "un-sway” YOU WILL HAVE more body lean. I got a bit sideways on this hill. This could have been a bad day, thanks to some fellow 4x4's and a strap I got up this hill OK. Body lean is noticeable in this shot...

As far as street, I've said before this isn’t any 911 and I don't drive it like one. It's a truck, it handles like a TRUCK. Therefore it performs like a Truck... And that's the way I like it.

Non sarcastically yes it does lean in the turns, but with the rack it adds allot of top weight. As long as you know your trucks limits you'll be fine.
