I'm doing a power steering conversion on my 72, I found a 84 mini truck and was to pick up the parts today, in the mean time, someone ripped off the pump so I will be getting the gear box but now need a pump. I have read of people using the saginaw pump but I'm wondering why? Is there something special about the saginaw? why not use the mini truck pump or something else. Could I just use a generic pump?
Thanks,

Thanks for the replys and sorry I didn't see those threads on my search. One other thing, is a saginaw a saginaw or do I need a certain model? I saw one that was called a Type 1, what do I want?

Thanks,

- Functional - works well
- Availability - almost any parts store has 'em
- Inexpensive - compared to Toyota pump
- Reliable - run it with a p/s cooler and it should have a long life

I just got off the phone with my local savage yard and they guy said he has lots of saginaw pumps for $35, so what do I want? Do I just get the newest looking? Do I want a certain type pully?
Thanks,

The ones found on mid 80s Volvos or 4 cylinder jeeps have a pulley that is more compatible with the wide belts used on the F/2F. You can also buy a wide pulley for moe $$$$. Measure the stock belts before you go to the junk yard.

I have a Volvo Saginaw pump on my 40 using the MAF bracket. Come off of an '86 Volvo 240 wagon. You could probably fab your own bracket, but the MAF one is nice and stout (and it was already on my truck).

I think I paid $20 for it at the pick-n-pull.

Hi All:

I'm running the Saginaw PS pump (and original pulley) from a '76 Chevy K5 Blazer.

Still works great after all these years!

Good luck!

Reman with lifetime guarantee is $50 + core ($10)....why buy used?

I can't think of a more generic pump (based on production numbers). This is in no way a put-down for the Sag, I will have one humming along under my 40's hood one day...

Well Ed, some of us have trucks that are pure junk and we want to keep them that way. :flipoff2:

Something got lost in translation, I guess. $35 is too much to pay for a used pump when you can buy a reaman for $50. That is all I was trying to say.

Go with what Hodag did and get the Volvo pump. It will have the wide(r) pulley on it.

Pump Bracket

I still have a few pump brackets left. $65.00 plus $10.00 for shipping. There are at least 50 people running my bracket that post here. I'm not making any more so if you want one let me know. Bill

That's a deal....somebody jump on it. If you have an F/2F and want to run PS, don't want to use the head bolts, this is the bracket. Comes with hardware, tensioner and instructions......:hhmm:

Thanks for all the replys
So does anyone know what width pully I want? I guess that would be the easiest way to figure what saginaw would work for me.

I run the Volvo pulley. It is within a RCH of the width of the Toyota wide groove pulley and I run an OEM belt. Early-Mid 80's 240DL pump. If you are not in a big hurry, I'll even get you one. A lot of Volvos come to KC to die.;)
