Youch! My mud TA's went from 140 a pop to just over 200! Our local wholesaler said they could go up another 30-40% if fuel hits the $4 mark.
Buy 'em while you can still afford them.

Anyone know if cosco sells BFG Mud TA's?

If you're anywhere near a Discount Tire, they will match any price - plus they have a great warranty and lots of locations to get tires replaced, rotated and flats fixed (free) etc.

I know that some here do not like Discount, but I've gotten a few good deals from them.

 Just put tires on my car a couple of weeks ago from Discount, and they didn't seem outrageous, or much of a change at all. What are they attributing this to, shipping costs? ~50% + another 30-40% seems like your dealer is fishing for some easy money... (unless I'm totally out of the loop on this). What time frame is the $!40 price from?

Modern rubber is primarily a petroleum product. As oil goes up, so do tires. It's getting really ugly, really fast.

People still running BFGs? Why? You like square tires? :hillbilly:
We use Performance Direct, which is Discount's wholesale division, at the shop. Never had a problem with em. And they beat anyone else's prices no matter what.
Warranty has never been a problem either.

I've never had a problem with Discount - lots of places to go for rotations etc. Desert Rat may match any price too(?)

$140 was about 2 years ago. As Luke stated it ties into the price of oil, also effects stuff like PVC pipe, (try to get a supplier to hold a price quote for more than 30 days). I'm sure Alvin knows all too well about this ;)

Thanks for the leads guys, and yes, I do like those square tires :D

Isn't BFG an acronym for Big F***ing Gimmick? Last set that I had wouldn't grip much. They dug in sand, loaded up in mud and snow, wouldn't grab rock. I junked them!
Last I heard, Alvarez Tire in Prescott Valley was offering deals on Nittos and others to club members. I don't remember the guy's name, check my old posts. Alvarez has a great road hazard available and they don't feed you a line the way that Discount is reputed to do the last few years. With no road hazard at all, they promised to replace a tire at cost if not fixable.

my recent experience was yesterday - here goes:

I called 4 Wheel Parts in Mesa on 33/10.5 BFG mud terrains: $1190 installed, with warranty, removal of old tires and balancing on a set of 5 [tire itself lists for $172, but the fees add up]

I called Discount tire in Fountain Hills: same deal for $1130 [their tire price is $191 but includes the warranty and some fees]

I am going local as it also saves the drive to Mesa :D

BTW: I had been watching prices on these tires for a year - they have remained steady :meh:

Just as an example - those same tires are $710 (for 5) shipped to your door from onlinetires. You just have to get them installed. I'm going to buy some 33x 9.50's for my pig from them. With savings I just buy a new tire instead of the over priced warranty.

first, you forgot to add the shipping, which is about $50 (according to their website)

second, I would have to have the time to experiment whether they can deliver on time... [I have a window of less than two days on this]

then, I have 5 tires that will never fit altogether into the cruiser - provided I could even lift them

then, I make a lot of friends driving around looking for a place that installs tires I bought elsewhere

there is an inverse relationship: things either take time or money - I just don't have infinite time to deal with something as mundane as tires

but I congratulate you on your savings

BTW, the BFG mud terrains do not exist in 33x9.5

That was with shipping included. I didn't forget.

Tire Dawgs on Washington - $10 each installed and balanced. No disposal fee.

I know where you're coming from though. Your time is worth X amount of money. Some peoples it's more - some people it's less. Just trying to spread the word on a good deal.

I know people are reluctant to purchase certain things on line. I've seen the light though. My Mickey Thompson 315/70-17's I bought off e-Bay last year - $212.50 ea. w/ free shipping. $10 for the installation - talk about a screaming deal. 12K miles no issues. You just have to be patient and hunt for the right deal.

 not to belabor this, but the free shipping was only for Continental tires

when I went to checkout to check it out, they added shipping charges....

not that it matters at this point :meh:

Well my contribution, I just got 5 tries and rims (Nitto Terra-Grappler 315/75/16) from DT for $100 more than the online price Norm paid for tires and mounting. With these I got road hazard warranty as well as the mount and balance. In two years I replaced 2 tires under the road hazard and when I traded out, Discount warranteed two of my old tires to adjust the cost. Based on that experience, Discount got my business. Plus, they're every where if I ever have a problem.

My $.02 - Carl

Congrats on the big boy tires Carl!

Here's some of the quotes so far:
The Discount I've been shopping at for years: $231ea.
Jack Furriers: $206.31ea
Costco: $190.35ea
Discount #2, (thanks, Alvin): $184ea
All these are out the door w/the basic warrenty.

Still haven't heard back from GCR, but I think they will have a tough time beating that last qoute.

Discount will match Costco.
