My family and I spend roughly 40-50 nights camping each year. We have started to look at rtts...so, who has one? Worried about a few things..

Some questions...
Does it feel like a brick up there? Big wind resistance? Mileage loss?
Does it affect handling? Buyers remorse?

We r happy with our ground tent...just wondering...

Thanks

We have been toying with that idea and share the same concerns.

Believe it or not I have several rtt's, one on my fj, one on my jeep, one on my lx470 and a couple extras. They are the BEST thing ever. I have a wind deflector on my lx so I didn't notice too much of an mpg drop, as for weight I don't even know it's up there on either vehicles. They're super comfortable. I'm from South Africa ,now living in Texas so I have a back ground with rtt's on landie defender 110's/toyo hilux's etc and back home the RTT is awesome from an "off the ground, away from the animals" stand point, same for here. Don't hesitate, just consider your oem roof racks for the weight once loaded.

Got one mounted to the factory rack on mine.

Wind noise increased some but not a lot. Nothing music cant handle. Lost less than 1 mpg, and it stays on top of mine 24/7 and when wheeling i still have confidence to do the off camber stuff.

go for it, so much nice than a ground tent and sets up in minutes.

I get the same MPG loss with my RTT or towing our 1200lb pop up.

At 75mph I get more effects from the wind with the RTT then towing.

No noticeable increase in road noise.

Effects from the RTT noticeable but not bad

Still nicer having a RTT then a ground tent IMO.

I run my tent most of the time. Only time I remove it is when I need to garage it or its going to the dealer.

With my lift, socks and tires I see no loss in mileage and still drive my truck hard and don't notice up there.

We love the tent as its quick and easy.

Shane.
