I saw a Forest Green 80 series in Menlo Atherton back in the early 1990s and fell in love with the look w/o knowing anything about it. I guess it was love at first sight. I moved to the Sacramento area in the early 2000 and without a job, I wanted an affordable realiable used family vehicle. I was looking for a 1995-1997 LC so I checked out a 1996 LC at a little used car dealer in Rancho Cordova. The POs did not take good care of this LC . Disappointed, I didn't even look at the 1994 Beige LC that was parked next to it. About a year later, the same dealer, now located in Roseville listed the same 1994 Beige LC I saw a year earlier. Fell in love with it during the test drive. I couldn't believe my luck. That's about 8 years ago. My Dad have always loved and owned Toyota hauling trucks and now I know why.

Agreed Beno! Not much at all has changed since I replied to this thread in 2004...except my age! Still a bean counter and still have the very same '94 I had then. It was pretty bone stock then...not now.

I drive an 80 because I'm one of those people that the weirdest s*** happens to. If something can go wrong it will go wrong with me. So when I wanted to move away from going fast I wanted something that would hold up well. REALLY wanted a Discovery since I loved hearing about the Camel Trophy when I was younger but the reliability wasn't there and I knew if I got one I would spend more time fixing it than modifying it. Drove to several states looking for the right Cruiser and finally found one I liked that literally has a huge binder full of maintenance receipts going back to 1999. And here I am...

Turned 40 last year and don’t believe it, besides the constant discomfort underneath my right scapula feel more or less just over 30. Come to think of it that scapula has been bothering me since I was 30. I do not have any kids of my own, girlfriend has identical twin boys who are going to turn 3 and a 7 year old boy.

I am employed as a Field Service Engineer on Turbines in power generation facilities.

My home is in Sarasota Florida, but I am from Maine. Growing up I spent lots of summers in Switzerland as my mother's Family is from there.

I studied Marine Engineering at Maine Maritime Academy and have always had an appreciation of quality mechanical equipment. Thus I found the Land Cruiser to be compelling. My brother bought a beat up 40 when he was in High School, too bad he ended up selling it to my friend who subsequently removed the body and eventually his parents got tired of it sitting in the yard. I bought my locked LX450 last year and with the help of the 80 community here on mud proceeded to do the PM and modify it with 315 tires and 50mm progressive TJM lift and 1" BL. The one thing that nagged me about the 80 was its lack of power as I was used to BMW product performance, also could not see installing a super charger and buying high test gas for this thirsty truck. I did not want to continue spending on armor and restoration of the seats if ultimately I would not be happy with it as my only vehicle. My desire was to be able to live with my Land Cruiser every day and drive it to projects and avoid flying. Subsequently I decided to procure a 200 with intentions of moving my LX450 to the next happy owner. In the process I traded off my 03' BMW 330 ZHP (what an awesome car), I am sad to see it go. Every day I wonder if I have done the right thing. The 80 is really a good vehicle and we have an awesome community here on Ih8Mud, there is so much helpful information to assist us in restoring our vehicle. I am skeptical that the 200 forum will ever be as active as there just is not the critical mass of 200 Land Cruiser owners out there to make it as good. Now I have two Land Cruisers, and something is telling me not to sell my 80.

In addition to my Land Cruiser addiction I have a passion for quality coffee.Just last month I added a $1k hand grinder to by stable of coffe equipment.

Hey Mudders!!

I'm 48. Married to a former model and we have an 11 yr old daughter that is sure to follow in her mothers footsteps. My best buddy is my Border Collie, Tio.

I've lived in Japan for 20 years and am fortunate to be living my dream of a house on the beach in an exotic location.....the Izu Peninsula. "BPoint" is the name of the surf reef break right in front of my house. I work as a teacher but we also have two side businesses that are going well and may have me retiring from the classroom soon. I'm not in any big hurry though as I really like teaching.

My LandCruiser appreciation began with a KZJ-78 3L Prado. While looking for a "real Cruiser" HZJ 70 Series I started looking at the HDJ81's and with the push of getting a good deal ... fell in love with the diesel 80 Series. I belong to an off-road club that gets out once a month for some fun and games. My truck is the princess of the group so it rarely sees anything too technical and I'm just as happy to ride along with others who don't mind risking damage to their rigs.

Life is good...!!

I'm an RN and work in an operating room. Second career. 41M. Like long walks on the beach. Have no hobbies except wrenching on my cruisers. Bought my first when I was 20. Played with Lego a lot when I was young. Married to a woman and have 2 daughters (5 and 7). Both want to race pink cruisers when they grow up. My oldest casually said to me the other day.... "Dad, I don't know why, but I just want to own a lot of tools one day". I had to hold back the tears, but managed an I love you sweetie, and added that I too wanted to own a lot of tools one day. We had a little moment there. My 5 yr old gets visibly upset when people pass us on the freeway and insists we only drive in the fast lane. Daughters are so cool. I'm not looking forward to boyfriends. I don't play video games or watch tv. I still play with Lego except I make patios with Palm trees and cats. They make little girl Lego now.

Lived in NJ for 18 years - now live in Cody, WY
Offroad bug bit me in my friends 2 door Cherokee, lifted on 33s with a rear locker. Saw how there was always something wrong with his Jeeps so I started looking into Toyota P/Us and 4runners and eventually added the LandCruiser to the list of things I wouldn't mind buying. A few months later and all I wanted was an FJ62 or an FZJ80... Ended up buying the 80 and man am I glad I did.

Guess I'll jump in - I'm 34, married with a 2.5 year old boy and 3 month old girl. Work as a mechanical engineer with a long-ass job title, do some forensic consulting on the side. Bought my first 80 about 6 years ago, and it's been a downward spiral ever since. Probably have enough $ in the current truck to have paid for a 200-series, but positive I'm not alone on that front knowing some others on this forum! Used to race mountain bikes in college and still enjoy getting out for weekend rides. Many of my camping trips in the 80 revolve around riding, can't wait for the kids to start riding themselves in a few more years.

got the 80 when I was mentally done with the >20-year old Mitsubishi Expo minivan clone bought new just before long-ago-has-been-husband and I moved out west (and split shortly thereafter, leaving me with the minivan) - paid 10x as much for the one-year-newer 80 than what I sold the same-high-mileage minivan for

a year later, got the LX on a whim a week after the 40 went in for major modifications . . .

Must be some innate misogynistic assumptions within me or something, but reading your threads and replies, I had you pegged for a 50 something male who eats Fruity Pebbles with Miller Genuine Draft instead of milk A female who rolls an 80 and studies gene mutations is pretty friggin impressive I must admit!
