I am need of a new power steering pump and wanted to get an idea of the best way to go. Factory or aftermarket, brands? It’s for a 2000 Land Cruiser.

almost always OEM if available.

I agree. OEM all the way. I bought a reman and the wine was still there. Bought OEM and all is good.

Thanks for the info. Ordered one tonight hopefully that will cure the whining.

Where did you purchase, local or one of the online discount dealers? May I ask what you paid? I think mine just needs new fluid so doing that this weekend but I may need to change it soon if that doesn't quiet her down.

Will you be resusing your reservoir or did it come with one? I was thinking they are listed as separate items usually.

I’ll replace it if I need to but for now I am going to keep my fingers crossed that it’s okay. It looks fine and no leaks.

Power steering flushing, is one of the most overlooked fluid on any vehicle. I find flushing with M1 synthetic ATF regularly, can really quite Vane pump down, keeps system clean.

Best practice is to flush your power steering system and clean reservoir making sure screen in bottom is clean first. The screens sometimes are so clogged and bottom internal cavities so dirty, it just best to buy a new OEM reservoir. Save a lot of time.

Then if you install a new OEM Vane pump. You'll install into a clean system.
