I picked up a Delta shifter console on the black friday sale.

The instructions say "Some Carling style switches will drop right in. Other switches will need the side nubs and or top and bottom nubs removed."

Can anyone tell me exactly which style of Carling style switch will drop right in?

I want to put in a winch power switch and a winch in/out switch, and I'd prefer to get ones that fits without modification.

Probably the Delta VS guys can.

CarlingTech are a manufacturer.
Their Contura type switches are commonly used for automotive aftermarket and marine stuff.

Lots of generic switches are a copy or variation of these

99% of what you'll find will be the drop ins. There are some switches with side nubs that are designed for switch alignment when you have multiple switches together but I can't tell you which specific carling models they are and havent seen them myself.

I order all my switches from here. You pay a bit more but you get what you need

BTW how much was the center console? I missed the black friday sale and the only thing that keeps me from ever buying anything from Delta is how overpriced they are.

Thank you.

Delta posted coupons here on 'mud for $100 off.

I haven't bought much from Delta, but everything I bought has been top quality.

Below is a link to another switch distributor. I’ve dealt with them a few times in the past and have been happy.

I like the 10, 11, and 12 style and they were drop in compatible with a witsend cubby insert. I would imagine they would also work with the console but I can’t verify.

Thank you.

I ordered everything today.

Will do.

Unfortunately the Carling Contura II and XII that I ordered (from OTRATTW) do not fit the Delta console openings without modification. They're both a tad too wide.

I need to decide if I look for a drop in option, or start filing.

(I think the winch in/out paddle switch is upside down in this picture)

I sent a note to Delta.

In the meantime, is anyone aware of a good source for Carling technical drawings, so I could look for switch styles that are closest to the available opening?

Sorry for the bad intel.

Check mouser for electrical technical information.
They have all the data sheets to get you back on track with real numbers.
They also sell real parts.
Counterfeit stuff is eliminated and they do so as a preferred supplier for the military.
Their stuff is solid and they stand by it and fix their mistakes.
I've fixed several vehicles using passive components from mouser.

The AOB I posted is not a true Carling if I recall, just made similarly. These are the dimensions they posted for the switch I linked. See if the measurements work.

“It has a face surface size of 1.95'' x 0.96''(49.5mm x 24.5mm) and uses a standard din size mounting hole of 1.5'' x 0.8''(37.5mm x 21.2mm). This is the standard size of most switch holes in modern vehicles, however it is best to check your particular hole size if unsure.”

EDIT: I measured a generic fog light switch I have for the 80 and the switch body seems to measure about 36mm x 20.5mm so I would guess that the Delta console is setup likely for standard Toyota sizes and the carling style are just slightly larger.

Thanks all.

Not bad intel at all. Thanks for a good source for switches. I could still use these too, just need to figure out if I want to do some filing!

Delta got back to me (very quickly!) - they recommended that I file the nubs that are interfering, checking fitment periodically. The design is meant to fit a wide range of switches so the holes require fine tuning.

In cab winch controller are awesome, I really like mine !
The wiring can be a challenge, do a lot of research. There’s 4 wire & 5 wire controllers
With each one needing different switches.
Good luck with your endeavor you will be happy when you get it done😎

Luckily I have a friend (AJ, not sure if he's on here) that also has an 80 with a Comeup winch with in cab switching, and shared his wiring schematic. He does engineering for a living and is kind of a genius (don't tell him I admitted that :) ). Fortunately, because if I had to figure it out, we'd probably let the smoke out of the electronics...

If I can figure it out you could two, also nice if someone has it figured out for you

I taped everything off and took the file to the first hole. The part that needs adjustment is aluminum. I had to expand the width to the full extent of the nubs and the length about a millimeter on both directions. I'll tackle the second one this weekend. Filing it by hand is time consuming.
