I'm not sure if it would work or not but mtbcoach in the fjc forum has a great setup for his cb. It might be worth looking into. He has a buildup thread that should be on the first page of the fjc forum that shows it. A pm would also get a quick response.

here ya go.

az, does that get in the way of the parking brake?

I have a Cobra WX 75. The box is zipped tied under the drivers seat and the mic mounts on the rear of the console cup holder. I didn't want to give up any more valuable real estate on a radio frequency with min effectiveness. I do like having the instant access to weather but other than that I only use it for scanning truck convsersions about traffic and smokie sightings. I lot of folks are starting to use ham bands now. Save the good mounting locations for those radios.

here ya go.

I have mine in the same location but with the side bracket knobs removed and the whole thing pushed down further so it's out of the way. No interference with the parking brake. Rather than drill holes I used a couple pieces of sheet Velcro. It's been there for years without moving.

Cobra WX 18 stII. Removed the ****py double din stock for single din stereo and the cb unit which fit's almost perfectly.

I avoided install issues and got a protable Midland unit for the tacoma. It looks like a handheld that the cops carry around and you can run it from the cig lighter in your van or attach the battery pack for some cordless action.

No real install necessary, just run the cb cable into the van and go.

It works pretty damn good and was around 200$ including the whip and cable. Its also easy to take out if youre the paranoid type.

D

Mine is in the same place as azrider. It's held in with Velcro, the power is taped into the seat wiring and has a plug in line. It's only installed for the trail, I use a cheap walmart mag antenna, so everything comes out in a couple of minutes. The radio that best fits is the Uniden 510XL or 520XL, no interference with the e-brake and they are great radios.

I followed the Slee writeup and installed mine in the ashtray location.
Slee - Uniden CB Install (Toyota 80 Series Land Cruiser)

x2 - Nice clean, and easy, install assuming you buy a CB that will fit there and it is possible to get the CB to fit and leave the dash bezel etc. close enough to stock that you can return everything to a stock config should you ever decide to remove the CB.

The only thing I did not do was the rearrage of the coax connector on the back of the CB so my radio sticks out maybe 1/2" vs. sitting flush. Looks fine IMO :)

Along the same lines has anyone done a CB & a HAM? I currently have my CB on the back of the Center Console and the HAM in the dash below the radio.

However I'm thinking of upgrading the Deck and getting a large screen...no more room!! Anyone try to do this...a large screen radio deck...and a CB...and a HAM? Where to put it all!?

I really have to give the small push to talk mic I bought at Radio Shack a try.
I am going off-roading this weekend and will let you know.
The nice thing about it is that if you have the Midland 75-822, which the unit IS the push to talk, you can stash it away and just have a small thing to use.

Just a theory so far. Will let you know after testing.....

The CB is a Cobra behind the dash, all the controls in the hand set. Ham is under the cup holder on the center console, faceplate below the ashtray. And of course, mic holders abound.. :D Gamiviti - custom mic holders

Used a RAM Mounting System on mine.
