That looks like the same size light console as in the US spec version. I think it would work.

I was just looking at your CB install and that is nicest looking install I have seen.

Do you have any pictures or info on install?

Thanks

Sorry no pics of the install. Mount is available from Marks Adapters. Just screws in the holes the console was mounted to.

I did the same thing as Ozarkroozer with the Cobra in dash unit. I already had an aftermarket stereo in there so I had the other space to use. Very happy with it!

I went with the Cobra 18wx in the dash, I want the controls and screen in a line of sight where I don't take my eyes off the road any more than adjusting the radio. And the ash tray is my change draw so that location was taken.

I even hung the mic from an empty switch location just to the right of the steering wheel.

Some of those locations just seem dangerous, especially the pod mounted one where you would have to extend your left hand across to the right side behind you and turn your head around to the right at the same time. You'll likely change a lane minimum if you try this while driving.

I know it has been mentioned in other threads, but the Cobra 18 in the dash needs to be altered a little bit to fit correct? At least the pigtail in the back of it needs to have 90* or something right?

Why do you mess with/look at it while driving? Maybe it just that mine is simple, but the only things the I adjust while driving are squelch and gain, both easily done by feel, never look. On the danger theme, I would guess that in the event of an accident, collision with body parts would be a higher danger? In an accident your body will move, stretch a pretty good distance and impact anything in the way with a lot of force. When mounting anything it's good to think of how you will move in an accident, do I really want those knobs embedded in my knee or face?

Yes, you have to add the 90* and it fits better in the top slot. No other mods than that though.

Im wondering why nobody has opted to go with the midland style unit I posted earlier?

It eliminates a lot of the hassles brought up in this thread..... No mounting in the dash required, easily unplugged and removed from the vehicle, and it can run on batteries or through the cig lighter. More importantly, to me at least, it can be used outside the vehicle.

That is currently what Im using. ;)

well, for the reasons you already mentioned and also because on long road trips with club members who use a secondary channel.

We will run on channel 4 in a convoy but if we want info from truckers about conditions ahead we switch over to channel 9.

Putting the radio up on a pod pretty much says I'm going to touch it regularly. If all you do is run on a single channel then burying it somewhere is no big deal. But if you need it accessible to change it regularly then IMO it should be in a location that is safe to do so while driving.

For me it is about performance, power, audio modulation, receiver sensitivity, and overall sound quality.

Most of the radios people are posting here ... including the Midland unit with the channel selector in the handset ... and the cute one that fits in the dash ... do not perform as well or sound as good as the better 10/11 Meter Radios made Magnum, Galaxy, or Ranger. There is no way I can fit my radio anywhere other than on the Tripod I installed. It is rare that I have to change channels and when I do, I usually have no issue doing so.

For a trail rig, the Midland you have and most of the other radios here are OK. For my application, they are not going to satisfy my needs. However, my Radios are more important to me than most. I would be curious why others did not go this route as well.

What do you think of that hand held unit some one mentioned?

If that arrogant rant were true, you wouldn't use CB.

From the radio techs that I have talked to the Uniden 510/520 are very good radios, mine has worked very well and fits nicely in the rig. But my use is more pedestrian, simple trail/convoy chatter, used as CB was designed, for simple, short range communication.
