Looking for some opinions on where to find 4.88 gears for a good price? Is one company better than the others?

Strength is a major concern.

Thanks

Make sure to get a quality gear. Yukons can be great, Sierra's are great, etc... Stay away from Genuines. Be sure to order the full install kit too, no sense ripping apart your axle and trying to reuse some $20 bearings IMHO.

I bought some rieder racing 4.88's after much research. You need to source part of the install kit from them and the other half from CDAN---he had to order some parts for the lockers from Japan. Do a search I had a ton of questions before I purchased mine.

What locker parts? I have done numerous gear changes in locked 80 series 3rds, the bearings are locker specific, but most LC gear installers will stock them. Was there something else that was replaced?

My parts list is at home but Rieder can't provide the whole install kit for locked cruisers--if you search there are a few posts regarding this problem....the parts from Japan were different bearings....

I supplied him OEM carrier and pinion bearings and at the time of his order one of the bearings was not in depot stock and came in from Japan. I'm sure aftermarket bearings are out there.

Ah, that makes sense. I actually ran into a snag on one of our first E-locker swaps a while back. The local Toyota dealerships didn't stock the locker specific carrier bearings. Took a while to get them, needless to say, I keep a set of OEM ones in stock. :D

So Dan-The carrier bearings are different traditional Land Cruiser vs 80 series. Are locker and non-locker 80 series also different?

Yes, the carrier bearings are different between lock and non-lock 80 diffs (both ends)
