sweeet ,thats a bonus then there all the same brackets

Not sure if its a one of or not ,but mates 90 1hz 80 series aircond pump and hoses look different to my dads 92 hzj75 hz a/c pump n hoses, the 80 series one looking like the pumps and hoses simular to the 60 series old style look maybe they changed in 91 or something just make sure the brakets pulley etc are the same or suit your year motor, if its a factory difference mate

The bit he needs is the same as the 80 series, but the 80 series aircon compressor bracket makes it sit further forward according to one wrecker

Dude, according to Toyota Parts DIY, the part numbers are the same from a 1990 HZJ75 to a 1995 HZJ75, so I think you are good to go.

There are three part numbers:

1) Bracket, Idle Pulley (cast piece behind pulley) 88444-60100
2) Bolt, Idle Pulley (adjuster bolt) 88446-60030
3) Pulley, compressor cooler Idle (pulley, bolt, washers, nut) 88440-60040

There are a pair of standard item bolts you can source locally.

I'll fax the local dealer on Monday and get you the Costa Rica prices. If they have them in stock and the prices don't scare you off, I'll buy them and bring them with me on my trip to Socal in a few weeks, then send them to you via UPS.

That work for ya?

Rick

hey, don't go through any trouble yet, i think japan4x4 has go me covered.

Did a quick search on
ToyoDIY.com

They 1HZ, Hdt as well as FZJ's look the same.

A/C units are at the bottom of the Electrical page, select the models and cross reference.

the fzj i looked at was different, but maybe there's more than one. I would hate to order one all the way from japan only to find out i could get one off of na spec 80.

hey look at what i got. thanks, japan4x4.

i didn't get the adjuster bolt with it though, so i'm sure i'll have a good time searching for that.

just test fitted it and the pulley doesn't line up with the compresser:bang:
not sure if it's the wrong compresser pulley or idler pulley.

edit: and i just saw on kevin rowland's build that only the hz pump will work. anybody got one?

I think you have a mix of 80 series and 70 series parts in there(maybe even Coaster).
The wrecker told me the idlers are the same but the bracketry they bolt to is different.

If you need some directly overhead or close up side pics for comparisons, just ask;)
Does your alternator have 2 belts?

yeah, my alt does have two belts. i went through some paperwork i have on the 1hz and it says it's either a 97' or 98' model. i'm getting a price on a new compressor, but i know it's gonna be expensive. i've also got an email in to g and s looking for a used one.

I paid about $900 a few years ago for a 1HZ compressor.

Did you get the current compressor with the engine?

There are some good universal compressors out there. Toyota Aust even used them on the 80 series here.

mine didn't come with a compressor. the po, who did the conversion told me the 3fe compressor would work, but oh well.

i think i can make a bracket to bolt to the current bracket that will relocate the compressor to the correct position. we'll see. maybe i can find a used one, but i don't know if i can come up with $900. that just hurts.

Looks like I payed too much.
Landcruiser HDJ 80/HZJ 105 Air conditioning Compressor - eBay, Air Conditioning, Heating, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 23-Jul-09 19:45:56 AEST)

Postage might be a killer though, but if you look through his list ,the 1HDJ80 compressor has the same number ( 10PA17C) as the John Deer,V6 4runner, Camry and Avalon .
It maybe a matter of swapping the clutch and pulley from a 1HZ compressor onto the others.

I was able to use a Toyota car compressor on my old 3F by swapping the clutch and pulley over. Aircon shop said this is quite common, you just need to find units with the same serial numbers

My wrecker said they have adapted the 3F comp to run on a 1HZ but reckoned it was too many headaches.

yeah, i just checked with japan4x4 and it would cost $1200 and then more shipping once it got to the states. i will be doing something else. hopefully i can find a used one through g and s, or the ebay.au doesn't look too bad.

no luck with g and s. i've emailed the ebay guy to see if he'll ship it to the states.

i'm in the same boat; and with my weekend trip through 105f weather and no AC... my motivation is growing. I am convinced that I can use a 1FZ compressor... but then will need to mix and match the magnetic clutch and pulley to get the correct alignment on the main pulley.

EDIT: I'm working on a 1HDFT... so the part numbers will be different, but the proverbial "boat" remains the same.

Hey Roscoe... can you measure from the middle of the AC belt (pulley) to the first horizontal mounting bolt (the bolt that holds the compressor into the cast-iron bracket.)?

According to Sheldon at G&S (and here, we were talking about 1HDFT AC compressors):
"[1HDFT compressor measures] 3.75" from center of front mount bolt to center of pulley.
My 97 FZJ compressor 3.25" center of mount bolt to center of pulley. "

This is on a HZJ75 and the distance is smaller, more like 67mm(2.637") if you measure from the centre of bolt to the centre of pulley.
I think this is because the 80 series is a bit longer in the engine bay and all the belts and pulleys are moved forward to be closer to the radiator.
The wrecker did warn me about this.

interesting. That's about what the FJ62 3FE-crowd measured; well, they said 2.5", maybe they didn't measure as carefully. Your's looks closer 2 5/8".

Hey Missipboy, you might be able to use an FJ62 compressor (once you find the 1HZ AC bracket, that is)

i have the bracket and a 3fe compressor. it all bolts up, but the compressor pulley needs to be moved about 1/2 inch toward the radiator.

i wonder if i can just buy the 1hz a/c clutch and pulley and swap it out to the 3fe compressor.

fabbing a bracket may be a little tricky after looking at the setup. at least for my skills it would be.

also, sheldon at G&S said the earlier 1hz stuff is different than the later stuff. that may be your difference there.

he also suggested using the 10pa17c compressor body like rosco did. i may try going that route and have an a/c shop mix and match clutches till we find one that works.

edit: the 10PA17C compressor body is what came on my original 88' 3fe. i'm going to take the compressor to the a/c shop and see if they can match me up a clutch that sticks out about 1/2 or so. will get the exact measurements first.

those compressors are so common, you figure they must be able to find something to work. Good luck! I'll be doing the exact same thing soon as I get my pulley from Japan4x4.
