Lol well it seems like there are as many different opinions as there are people on the subject.

Anyone else can chime in? I have also noticed a burning smell coming from the car after I've driven it in 4hi for a while

If you dont you should monitor your trans temps.

Bahia de San Jorge Google Maps

Let me know if you want to go I can leave in the AM;)

I might have to take you up on that someday!

I just added it to my map. Anytime I see a cool photo or trail I try to find it on google maps and pin it. Here is my current collection, I've been to some of the stars, but not enough:

10-4, that sounds like a good bet. I don't want yet another gadget on my dash, but for driving on beach, it'd really be great to know how my different drive modes affect tranny temp

Bluetooth ODBII and Torque app(if you use Android) and I'm sure some option for iphone...
I'm sure there's some device that works with iphones, but the 15$ ELM ODB gauges do NOT. What I ended up doing (I already had a copy of torque pro, it's 6$ or something if you don't) is keeping a kindle fire in the car and setting up a custom gauge dash. If you catch them on sale, that puts you at 50$.

Not as nice as a scangauge, however.

For what you're doing you're fine in high range. If you don't even need to air down then you're not straining anything.
I'm aired down to about 6psi. The sand is so soft and deep your feet will sink and it'll cover your shoes.
You will get more touqre with lo range, top speed will be about 40mph before you're out of rpm.
For the steep hills I use lo range, center diff locked and I leave my transmission in 2nd gear. This keeps the rpm up to keep the engine closer to the power band and for engine braking when going down the dunes.

My ultra gauge doesn't monitor trans temp either. I thought the early 100 ECU's don't offer that data. I'd switch over to a scangauge if it shows trans temp.

*edit: Nevermind, I just saw the SGII price.

I also have an Ultra-Gauge, I think the newest version shows trans temp but I do not know for sure.
Minei is old, like almost 10yrs old so it does not show trans temp.

Thanks... just checked their site. Apparently I bought the "EM Plus". The MX is the version that may read trans temp. I thought neither had the capability to display trans temp so I went with the cheaper option.

Unless something has recently changed with ultragauge none offer trans temp where scangauge can read all 100/LX series running current firmware.

When you say “4WD low” I’m assuming you are referring to low range on the transfer case. If that assumption is correct then here is what the owners manual specifies:
