This probably does not go in this section, but I picked up a 74FJ40 that was bobbed to a 45 pickup. The PO said "usual landcruiser rust" and sent pictures. The pictures did not look that bad.

I finaly got the truck and I'm still laughing. I guess "Usual Landcruiser Rust" has many definitions.

At what point do you just buy a cab versus all the metal to build a cab? I have never seen a tranny tunnel cover rusted through.

If you were going to buy a cab, who would you recomend? Aqual has new aluminum tubs for $1060 plush shipping.

I gave up on finding a FJ45 frame so I have a FJ60 frame that I'm starting with.

The interior was in great shape. The #1 rod was through the block. I started to remove the interior to get the tranny hump off. I removed the carpet and 7 (seven) layers of sheet metal and or tin.

The pics above are what I found.

thats cheap for a cab 1060 bucks

depending on your fabrication skills you might rebuild what you have. but i would just spend the cash and get the aluminum cab and start off fresh.
you might even get the bed as well, assuming you don't have one--an all aluminum fj45.

wonder when they went up? they used to be $800 something, that was just from the cowl back, firewall not included

I checked thier site this morning and it said $1063.00 US. I guess technically it is the tub since you are correct it does not include the firewall.

I don't know if the aluminum floor pan goes up the firewall or just ends at the door hinge post.

In the top and the secon pic you can see the back of the cab bottom. It is fabricated out of 2x4's and overlayed with fiberglass on the inside. On the outside it has a really nice piece of aluminum diamond plate. I'm scared to take this piece out. I think the entire cab will collaps on me.

From now on I will always wonder what is under some peoples diamond plating.

That looks like it was driven into the ocean several times.

Cruiserparts.net and cruisersolutions.com (both in NH) should have 45 frames.

Aqual has Aluminum tub for $1060.00
Heritage Sheet Metal has the Steel FJ45 tub for $3234.00
Why the major price difference?
SOR does not offer anything other than floor pans for a FJ45
CCOT does not offer anything other than floor pans for the FJ45
I sent the request for a price to Matkins

Cruiser Soulutions has the same aquala tub for $1049. Not that its a huge savings just thought I would mention it. I have often thought about doing and putting it on a 60 series frame

I can't remember the comp. name right now. they were in Canada west coast, maybe Vancuver area, they had floor pans and other pieces in steel. someone here should know.

all the aqualu tubs are aluminum. they will make special length tubs if you ask them. i think nolen's was custom.

aqualu stuff isnt EXACTLY the same as stock and the heritige is suposed to be an exact replica of what toyota produced but in a little bit thicker metal and possibly has a somthing to prevent rust...heritige also has product lines one is economy that isnt exactly the same as stock and the other is...
