Aww Dave, I really wish you hadn't posted that. It'll take weeks to get the regurgitated bile out of my throat.

South of the river:

Rudy's 360
Hill's Cafe
Nutty Brown Cafe

If we'll be down on South Congress, I'll have to leave my favorite T shirts at home:

Wouldn't want my coffee spit in by the hippie baristas... :D

David,

Before moving out towards Dripping Springs last year, I lived in and around South Austin (Zilker, Travis Heights, etc) for many years. As such, I've spent a lot of time in the South Congress area (Home Slice, Jo's, Guerro's, Doc's, etc.). There are a lot of great places to hang out down around there. Really though, I was picturing in my head how DAMN COOL it would be to see a dozen or so bad-ass Land Cruisers parked along the road on South Congress. Quite often you see nice bikes (motorcycles), rat rides, and even sweet custom cars crusin' around down there. I've even been down there with a bunch of other dual-sport motorcycles before. None of that would compare to a caravan of nice Cruisers taking over for a few hours. Hell, I'd be willing to bet someone $100 that after one or two outtings down on South Congress we'd probably pick up a new member or two. Just a little different exposure.
Maybe First Thursday once in a while? [For those that don't know, First Thursday is an extremely busy time down on S. Congress. Tons of people. Tons of cool cars. Etc. Etc. Held on the evening of the first Thursday of every month. Much better turn out when the weather is nice then when it looks like it does today.]

Please, I don't mean to start a flame war, just replying to David's post. Just posting some thoughts.

-Sean

Sounds cool to me...been meaning to go down there for 1st Thursday for a long time now and never was motivated (long drive for me), but that would be fun and probably motivate me if we got some folks to commit.

1st Thursday might be difficult for us Northerners. I think a weekend event might work better (more parking and more time to get down there).

This one's for JMDaniel and Lee.

No thanks Dave, but can you get me a shirt with this image of the Palin twins?

(BTW, feel free to use this as your new screensaver )

I used to live down in that area and have been to 1st Thursday many o' times. We'd have to get there super early in order to save enough parking spots for all us to line up. I do like the idea of having all of the cruisers down there lined up, but 1st Thursday might be tough to pull off. Jo's would be cool. Docs is right there as well. I'm sure they wouldn't mind us parking there as long as we drink some beer which I don't think will be a problem with this group! Might even draw more folks into their business.

You guys are confusing me. Are we talking about moving Cruisers 'N Coffee from Saturday mornings in central Austin to Thursday nights on South Congress?

FWIW I don't have any objection to driving south on a weekend morning, ie to Jo's, but don't care to fight traffic on a week night. I do like the Zingers/Central Market location. Never a parking issue there, and plenty of coffee and taco options handy.

You are confused ol man!

We are talking about doing something in addition to or outside of CnC.
Naturally this would not be sanctioned by LSLC or WALCS. :p

Anyone ever consider somewhere south or closer to Lake Austin area?

...every few years events seem to go through a "we should have it here" debate....this one isn't up for debate

Come up with some ideas (location/times). It's been 15 or so years since I lived in south Austin, so I don't know what's available down there anymore.

Weren't you an English major at a Tier 1 university? And isn't this the CNC thread? :hhmm:

As everyone knows, WALCS doesn't sanction a damn thing except for Fridays at Billy's, beer, and cool stickers. Speaking of WALCS, you're way behind on your dues. Be advised that the humiliation of double secret probation is imminent. ;p

Tucker is correct - for those of you that have been in the club long enough, we seem to have this debate every few years, and in the end we just stick with the Rudy's meeting time and place.

The nice thing about keeping it consistant at Rudy's all these years is people know it - it's posted on our public we site, and it just never changes. For those people wo don't log onto ih8mud, or lslc.org list serve, or just want to show up due to finding it on the web... it just works.

As for organizing the non - LSLC Saturday meet-up, I applaud Tucker for putting it together. Getting people to commit, and actually showing up is half the battle. It's a bit like herding cats.

How long did it take you to gather all the quotes to build your case?
:p

Possibly 90 seconds--the quotes are chronological. Highlighting was the PIA. That took an additional minute.

I watch a lot of Law and Order. The case built itself. ;)

I am down with a Soco or south central meet. I think Bart springs or Congress would be ideal.

I know the owners of green mesquite BBQ on Barton. There are quite a few place on South lamar that might want the business. Docs is a great place to hang out, but not a great place to hang out with the cruisers. They have all of that now hippie revers diagonal parking that confuses the hell out of everyone and causes more accidents than it prevents. It is usually wide open for a line of cruisers parks across the street from Doc's. The overhead map is out of date.

That spare lot down congress is full of food trailer so that is a no-go.

I am sure Hooters would love yall to patron their business... they have a huge lot with frontage on south 1st and barton for particapant attraction.

Dont forget the torchy's trailer park on South first at 1311 south 1st. there is another spot just north of there that has a few food trailers and a spare lot across the street.
