When does the stock 22re cam turn on/open up?

Not sure if my cam is OEM....but my 22re has a long tube header 2 1/4 collector into straight back 2 1/4 tube with a muffler along the way. Has a fairly smooth idle but sounds good at idle and sounds good opened up.

Motor turns ON like a light switch at 3000-3200.

Sound like it has a cam or is that the stock power band?

Not sure what you mean by "turn on." Does this help?

I dont know enough for that table to relate to RPM except longer duration more lift probably does equate a later rpm power band. That table is missing whem hp/tq comes on at × rpm

By "turn on" I mean noticably goes from lag to power.

Perhaps a stock cam doesnt have a noticable transition?

I think you are asking where the "power band" is at in the RPM range? In my 87 there does not seem to be any noticeable rpm area where I feel it "pick up". That motor is up to date on maintenance and bone stock.

My 94 pickup has a header into a 2.5" collector with unknown internals. I bought it from a friend of mine who had it a few years. I asked him about any internals and he said "I never had it open, but that's the best running 22re I've had" (He's probably had at least 40) Anyway- that truck moves like normal until exactly 3,000 RPM and then its like you turn on a light switch. It actually pulls! Unfortunately in my normal driving habits, I always shift just before that happens :)

Wonder if she just leans right out after 3k w/ the non restricted exhaust :cool:

Perhaps one day I'll put a dial indicator on the cam and see what it says.

I threw the de-cal directly into the bin... its just got so much duration and lift that it takes 4 months of sundays to turn on now.
