wheel witdth tire width question

Hey all,

Son picked up 36 x 14.5 x 15 tires for his 40. Any of you run this width and what rim width do you run? Thanks

Also, how is wheel width measured? Outside to outside or bead seat to bead seat? Thanks again

You'll probably get some different opinions on this one, but-

If he wheels it, and does not have beadlocks, then I would stay on the narrow side for wheels. I've run 8in. wheels on 12.50s and 13.50s and had decent results with keeping the bead on at low pressure. If it were my rig, and I did not have beadlocks, I'd probably go with a 10in. wheel.

I *think* width is measured from outside to outside, but I'm not sure. I would think the difference would be insignificant.

difference on rims seems to be about 2 inches so we are unsure if rims we have are 8 or 10 wide?

I would probably run those tires on 10" rims, any smaller width, and I would run 8" rims.

I have Iroks in that size and I run them on 8in wheels so I don't loose a bead when aired down to 9 or 10 psi.

he picked up used parnelli tires for the rocks cheap off a friend at school, not sure which ones but very aggressive tread and sidewall

With 36's, he's gonna need some more lift than what I recall he's running currently. Are you gonna go SOA to accomodate the new meats or spring lift and fender trim?

at this point he has 4+ with springs and shackles and also about 3 inches with a body lift - had tires mounted today, will post pictures soon, they look pretty sweet on the 8 inch rims, better than how they looked on the wide rims they came off.
