I am in the middle of doing the knuckles on my 1989 FJ62. I am stuck on getting the oil seal into the hub. I cannot for the life of me get it to slide in. The edge of the hub looks damaged to me, like someone has it it with a hammer at some point. I am using a brass drift and trying to get the oil seal on over the wheel bearing but it will not go. Any advice?

It's a pretty tight press fit, so any damage to the seat will make it very difficult to install the seal without damaging it. If I was in your shoes, I think I'd carefully file away any spots where the lip of the seat is damaged, and maybe sand the whole thing with a bit of 320 grit. Then use a large socket that's the same outside diameter as the seal to carefully drive it home. I think I used my 2 1/8" socket for the spindle lock nuts to drive in the seal. Put a light coat of motor oil on the mating surface of the seal. Good luck!

Clean it up with a rounded file..

Or a larger diameter barrel sander. If you don't have a seal driver, I'd use a block of wood to drive it in, just make sure it's absolutely perpendicular to the hub face.

That picture is a good example of why one should not use a steel hammer to drive bearings and bushings. Use a brass hammer and/or drift.
