Anyone have a link to the bypass pump? My '06 would even be more ideal, to me, with another 30HP.

Back to the thread: My ideal: low 100K, one owner, soccer mom/ grandma driven, documented dealer serviced, West Coast with no rust or interior damage due to high temps. I could take or leave NAV and rear entertainment. I wouldn't mind the KDSS if it would not interfere with a mild lift or slider installation.

The OPOR sliders from MetalTech are now KDSS compatible, if I recall my last conversation with Mark@MT on that topic correctly.

The kit just deletes the air pumps. It does not add 30hp. But you get the VVt-i which has 30 hp more then the 03/04.

I love how everyone argues about VVT and how the 30 extra horsepower is awesome, and then talks in other threads how they don't run the premium fuel which is required for the VVT to advance timing enough to see the horsepower increase. So congrats on the VVT that advances a camshaft a whole 0 degrees with that 87 octane everybody uses.

I run premium in my '07. I don't know if it helps but maybe running premium reduces issues with the VVT-i system. I have just under 60k miles. I put about 10k miles a year on mine. Premium runs about $.40 more per gallon where I live. That's around $250 per year to run the premium. Worth it? I don't know. Doubt it hurts though.

Back to the question at hand. Ideal would be hard to get now. For me, brand new, untouched, no nav, KDSS on the fence, either way.

What I got, one owner silver '07, 41k miles, Lexus serviced at dealership where purchased in Tulsa, OK, no rust, looked brand new in and out, no nav, no KDSS. Even light bulb changes where on the service history. When traded in they noticed some fluid seeping around the water pump. Dealer went ahead and did timing belt and water pump. I happy.

If you use premium, you're seeing the benefits of the system. 95% of people don't use premium though, so props to you.

Kdss is useless to me because I wanted long travel which doesn't make kdss handy anymore.

I know I was just saying for 250 you can remove the problem with the VVTI and keep keep your 30 hp worry free. Also I don't see why people don't run premium in thei VVTI?!? I mean I feel like most of us plan on keeping our rigs forever and run them on the best fuel/oil we can. Maybe since I don't drive mine everyday and have to worry about the cost difference I might be an exception.

03 or 05 or any of them, I watch the different places where people where selling them and when one that came up that looked like a good deal and was very clean and in a color I wanted, I jumped on it, to me it was that simple. For me color and no nav where the main choices I made.

VVTI or no VVTI is a choice we make or don't make, the same with using reg or prem fuel, or what color we want to get or how we want to equip or not equip our GX. Also a 2005 GX470 with VVTI does not require Premium fuel, it just recommends it for better performance. It in 2006 that Lexus recommends it and then in 2007 the require it, why is ????? To me.

All of these are very similar in equipment and complexity to work on. I did the by pass for the secondary air pump, so for me it is not longer a factor.

Again the ideal GX to build is a choice for each of us to make on what we want, VVTI of not, color, or nav or not, aftermarket stuff, it's not a stamped out GX

The fact is you can google secondary air pump issues on these trucks and basically find the end of the Internet with people who've had problems. You're right, they're all solid, but at least for me, simplicity is best. I realize that my answer to the question is not going to be everyone's.

Yes but understand that problems like this are more exploited on the Internet, kinda like the weak front diffs/transmission on the early model 100 series. Not really an issue but yes if you use google you will find people who have had problems with an engine that is used throughout the Toyota fleet. Crazy concept.

Also, you said simplicity is best yet your entire hvac controls are run through your navigation system.

Happy 4th!

I would be more worried about your rear diff than the air pump :P

i would much prefer my truck to not have Nav as well, specifically for that reason.

It recommends it for premium performance, which is the whole purpose of VVT. Without the slower burning fuel (premium), the truck can't advance timing, thus negating the benefits of it. In 2007, there was probably an update in programming, perhaps a little more agressive timing and fuel maps which necessitated it. I own a car with VVT. lexus isn't the only company that has air pump issues, I've deleted and repaired systems on $100,000 cars before, Porsche being the last one.

That is what I said about the 2005 information??

VVT-i controls intake camshaft timing. It has nothing to do with ignition timing.

Very nice

I know not very realistic, but a manual transmission behind the V8 would be really fun. I have heard of 100 series in a few other countries with this combo.
