Hey guys,

Sorry for the dumb question, but what's the difference between a FJ80 and a FZJ80??

I'm looking for some coils, and was told that the FJ coils would work for my 3rd Gen 4Runner, but now I see FZJ as another option for Landcruisers???

Can someone help?

The 3FE engine is in the FJ80.

The 1FZ engine is in the FZJ80, basically 1993-1997 here in the US, although the were a variety of engine options elsewhere.

There's a few more differences than just the engine. With a few exceptions, the FZJ80 has a full floating rear axle with rear disk brakes. The front disks are also bigger on the FZJs. The stock wheel size was increased to 16" on the FZJs and the transfer case and transmission are upgraded. The FZJ transfer case, AKA center diff, has a Viscosity Coupler (VC) in it which makes it act like a limited slip full time transfer case. The transmission has a power mode for towing and other high load demands, which alters the shift points while engaged. I'm sure I forgot something, so chime in if you know of other differences.

you need to ask in the 4runner section, apparently there is some drastic difference in 80 series stock coils from year to year. I sold my stock coils a few years ago and got a ton of questions from the 4runner guys about the number of wraps and paint colors on the springs.

if you use 8 wrap it usually gives you 4 to 4.5 inches of lift and 9 wraps give 5+ inches they have different colored dots on them so you can tell.
