I’ve named 2 of mine and someone else named the other, here’s the story:

Blue fj40, very shiny and clean looking from about 20 feet away, can’t turn left (Pittman arm needs changed) - it’s name is “Blue Steel”

Black FJ60 - Runs a TBI 350 which tend to run warm. When asked on a trail by someone, hows the truck? My response Of: “it’s so hot right now” meant the truck is now named “Hansel”

Beige 80 series. @Rice named it “Biscuit” presumably due to the soft and fluffy ride and the color? I’m contemplating changing its name to “2weeks” since that’s the joke that probably sticks best.

what’s your cruisers names and story?

and yes this was inspired by someone else’s Facebook post.

2weeks is the clear winner there.

My cruisers name. The 80 and the 100.

Never named my cars. Although lots of people called the 80 the Yeti Wagon.

So glad you put this together, over the past month or so I've been trying to figure out what to name (if anything) my silver 88 FJ62. Looking forward to the responses here to get the creative juices flowing.

78 FJ40 - "Dozer"
Was getting ready for a URE run many moons ago. Dozer was sitting right outside my garage, in 1st gear, low range. Last fuel level check... leaned in, turned the key to accesory and the engine proceeded to crank, in gear. Plowed through my garage door headed towards the back of the garage as I'm diving in to finally turn the key back. Turns out it was a bad ignition switch that was shorting to "start" in the "acc" position.

08 200 - "Grace"
She is green and "drinks a lot" so she's named after western Irish lord Grace O'Malley: a fearless leader, by land and by sea, a political pragmatist and politician, a ruthless plunderer, a mercenary, a rebel, a shrewd and able negotiator, the protective matriarch of her family and tribe, a genuine inheritor of the Mother Goddess and Warrior Queen attributes of her remote ancestors. Above all else, she emerges as a woman who broke the mould and thereby played a unique role in history

'87 FJ60 - "Moonshine"
Shortly after purchase, I named her "white lightning" after the car in Grease (not kidding). Funny enough, I think the movie car was actually called greased lightning

Didn't love it, but it was supposed to be funny, because my truck was slow, and in the movie, it's a fast car. Didn't love the name, and a few days later, I was watching a moonshiner documentary where their 'shine was called "white lightning". Made the connection, decided Moonshine was a far superior name, and she's been Moonshine ever since.

Aforementioned car from Grease:

If the 200 was blue you could have used Boudica for the same reasons.

'95 4Runner - "Fort Knox"
I bought it in '96 and started wheeling it a couple weeks later and wanted to give it a name. Since it's gold (more like beige, but whatever), most of the ideas related to that and I was thinking about "Nugget", but a buddy of mine said "Nah, that just reminds me of poop. You should call it 'Fort Knox', because it's gold and you're gonna put all of your money into it." So, it stuck.

'15 Tundra - "Big Brown"
Pretty self-explanatory, but my wife bought a '15 4Runner a couple years ago that she wanted to call "Lil Blue" because it's blue and "Big Blue" reminded us of the Univ. of Kentucky (so...no), so "Lil Blue" it is. I already had the Tundra, but after that, I just started calling it "Big Brown".

Oddly enough, I never did really name the 40. I thought about calling it "Time Machine", because every time I drove it (especially when the 8-track player worked), it kinda felt like I went back in time, but it just hasn't really stuck.

'71 FJ55 is named "Bucky." It's a rusty old truck as most 55's are. It looks like what anyone nicknamed Bucky should look like. It is a down to earth truck that is slowly returning back to the earth from which it came. In the meantime I plan to drive it as much as I can.

'78 FJ40 is named "Crockpot." Previous owner is nicknamed Meatball, so Meatball always showed up to events in the Crockpot. This truck has been a member of ONSC longer than I have. ONSC members named the truck, and so it shall forever be known as "Crockpot."

'82 FJ40 is named "Dusty." I bought the truck from a local farmer who bought it new and used it on the farm for 25 years or more before he parked it in a chicken barn, where it sat for years until I rescued it. The 464 Beige color and the fact that the whole truck was covered inside and out with a thick layer of powdery dust earned it the name. I will never be able to get all the dust out of it.

'84 FJ60 is named "Turdle." Its turd brown paint and the fact that it is as slow as a turtle gave it its name.

'94 FZJ80 is named "Cotton." It's a white truck (best 80 color BTW) and it's an exceptionally clean truck. Purchased new at Toyota of Gastonia by the first owner and then became my truck here outside of Charlotte, it has lived in the South all of its life. In the land of cotton, good times are not forgotten.

2000 - 100 Series - Sandy - Owned 10 years - longest of any vehicle was Sandy for the champagne color and all the sand from beach trips and surf fishing

Doesn’t happen everyday but I usually end up calling my 80, my 4Runner and my pickup “mother f***er!” most of the time.

94' 80 series- Dipity - shorty for "serendipity " buying the 80 was an unexpected treasure for the family with all the adventures and friends we have met as a result.

This might take the cake! Never realized how Dipity got her name.

97 lx450 Hazarduty - Mainly because when I was deployed I used my hazard duty pay to pay for all the initial mods on it.

82 Toyota pickup RECON - mainly because it is the smallest of all my other vehicles so that plan was to keep it light and nimble like we were expected to be when I was in a Reconnaissance platoon many years ago.

71 fj40 Joe's 40 - I bought it from Joe so I just refer to it as that.

71 FJ40 Melissa - named it that mainly because just like my wife it hasn't ran since 1996. haha

We had started calling it Coqui, due to the color and sounds and my Puerto Rican wife. :)

When we brought my 80 home in 2012, Shannon and the kids immediately wanted to name it Elsie. She's big, heavy, slow, and thirsty so I thought Elsie the Borden milk cow. The name stuck until a few months later we were having a conversation about the name and I said that Elsie was a big tough offroad vehicle and the Land Cruiser needs to be named after something other than a cow. Shannon and the kids burst out into laughter and explained that Elsie is actually the initials L C, for Land Cruiser, not the Borden milk cow. We still call the Land Cruiser "LC" but secretly I think Shannon and the kids really mean Elsie.

I tried changing the name to Shadow last year but that was an udder failure.

I really like Elsie.

1981 BJ44 -The Jalopy. Named by the wife and kids because, well.......

former 2001 4Runner Green - @izzyandsue named it MacLeod. It was the last Highlander 4Runner.

2003 LX470 - Jolene. Bought at a Rover dealer. Sales guy asked if I wanted to test a Range Rover. I said, no. I didn’t want a high maintenance super model. Just a comfortable, big-bones gal who likes to play in the woods.

2015 Trail Premium 4Runner - Jenkins named by the wife after This comic for some reason

Zippy ... the name an old girlfriend gave it when she felt the ... you know.
