What are folks using for this hose? I cut mine up when pulling my head as it was so old and the clamps wouldn't budge...thinking it was just a simple hose I could replace easily at the local auto shop. But no. Sure, I can put a heater hose on there but I don't think that's gonna fit the bill. Won't it collapse with the vacuum? The one I pulled off is sort of one hose inside the other with a braided mesh between the two. It's a lot harder to squash than a heater/coolant hose. I didn't see any advertised on the Landcruiser parts sites I checked, either. What gives?

Thank you, Sproggy

You should be able to find 3/8” vacuum hose at auto parts stores. Might be able to find some labeled as a PCV hose. If not, most 3/8” automotive hoses will work without collapsing.

Your old one was probably much harder from age.

Hmmm 3/8"? You're talking inner diameter, yes? It looks bigger than that to my eye but my vision is going bad, it's true. It might be stiff from age but it's to tubes, one inside the other, with a mesh in-between. Maybe it's not a stock item. The auto stores here that I checked did not have anything that big in stock, not labeled vacuum hose, at least. I'll through a pic on here just for kicks.

Use a silicone hose so it won't harden or disintegrate again.

Not a regular heater/coolant hose? I don't think those are silicone, right?

I just replaced the same hose on my 6/77 FJ-40, and used line that was readily available at one of the local autoparts chains. Works fine for me.

The hose I replaced was nearly identical to the new hose I used; neither looked like the hose you're showing in your picture.

Great thanks for that! I will do the same. Guess I was making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Hey, where are you at in MA? I'm in Duxbury on the south shore.

I'm out near Amherst, MA.

Good luck finding that hose! IIRC, I bought a length of the size you're looking for, and some smaller vac line, at Advanced Auto Parts.

Just gonna put this out there but....my hose DID look WAY more interesting! Oh well....

Fantastic, thanks for taking the time. Maybe YOU should start selling them, City Racer. Looking at the pic of your engine bay is causing me no amount of giggles....comparing it in my head to the rusty/oily mess that is my engine bay. Wow, so clean...

Looks like old school fuel line to me... and yes the ribbing is cool. Much of the stuff from parts stores has been cheapened out these days. They're starting to use a hard mesh instead of the braid. It doesn't cut so well with a pocket knife. :meh:
