I'd swear someone went and changed the title of my last thread ..but here she goes again..

This will be my wife's truck, so I won't need anything with modifications, just a reliable, capable SUV to move the kids around...

what do I need to watch out for?

thanks

Does it have r12 or r134 AC?

Alsoyou really want a 94 unless you want to spend an extra $1200 for a 1994 ECU.

FYI - You could have gone into your intial post of that thread and selected edit and changed the title.

I did select edit and edited the title, but it only chaged it on the "inside" of the thread...

I guess I waited to long...

so I'll need a 1994 ECU if I convert from r12 to r134?

if that is way off, why would I need a '94 ECU?

thanks

lurker- you lost me on the ECU thing. Why should he be concerned about a new ECU? And I didn't think there were any significant differences between the 93 and 94 ECUs, anyway.

Don't understand the ECU thing either, nothing wrong with 93 ECU that I am aware of???

what about the engine/struts, etc..

are there any major problems I should be aware of?

will it cost me a couple grand to replace struts?

Replacing the shocks/coils is relatively cheap. Most folks choose an aftermarket replacement such as OME ($750). OME provides numerous options based on lift and load needs. However, if you go with new Toyota replacements it's quite a bit cheaper.

There's a few members in the KC area. You might be able to get one of them to help check out any potential purchases. I'm about 2 hours south of you.

I also know of nothing in regards to the ECU however I do know there is a difference in the programming in regards to the tranny shift points and controls between the 93 and 94 with the 94 being more desireable.

but probably not worth $1700 with a soccer mom driving it...

but good to know if I ever "enherit it" from her..

is there a "regional" section on the board? we had a "kcmaximas.org" for local Maxima Geeks...

I wonder if there's anything like that for the Land Cruiser....

but now she's talking about waiting until AFTER we close on the house, so we know we have enough cash to close (we'll don't want to finance the L.C. if we dont' have to...)

The 93's have a faulty ECU that throws error codes 83,85,85 IIRC. These are transmission codes that DanC and I had to go through.

Since the price between 93 and 94 are the same per say same amount of miles.

Here in Tx the r12 is more valued IMO but come replacement time others may differ.

I would not use the ECU as criteria for deciding between a 93 or 94, I have never heard of any ECU problems attributed to 93 vs 94 before. 197k on my 93 never thrown a bad code yet!

No problems on my '93....

Biggest thing is to be sure you get a 93-94 with the 4whl disc/ABS/Rear Full Float axle option.

(all three are interdependent on the other, if it has one of them, it has all three).

Front discs alone are not enough for an 80.

I have never heard of this ECU issue either or the shifting pattern change. AFAIK the 94 has the same ecu as the california 93. Only reason I know for the difference from the federal 93 is they added the egr temp sensor for all 80s in 94.

If you don't believe me or DanC then do a search.

See my sig, I have a 93 also and if I knew then what I know now then I would of never bought a 93.
