I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me out with some info on BJ70's.I know my way around the 40's but when it comes to the 70's I have no experience. Are there any particular areas to look for rust(body/frame)and what to check in terms of drivetrain problem areas.I am heading down to the Coast this holiday weekend and there are (3) 1985 BJ70's that I plan on looking at ,all in the same price range ($5000.00-$7000.00).I was also wondering what I can expect in the way of fuel mileage(economy?) based on highway driving.I have a 155km. daily commute to and from work. Thanks!

Like the the 40s they rust anywhere they are not protected.
Mainly in the lower parts around the wheel arches where moisture can linger.
Also in the roof and floor areas and of course the chassis, yep just about everywhere:D
Open up the front doors and inspect the seam where the lower body joins the upper body between the hinges.
Serious rust in here can be hard to fix
Your main job will looking for signs of large scale bondo jobs.
The doors are expen$ive to replace.
