Hi,

I tried rebuilding my power steering vane pump off my 95 1FZ-FE and messed up the threads on shaft (the 17mm 12-point m14 nut), I'm wanting to order a die to try to fix the threads.... only problem is all the thread gauges i have access to don't go that large... and im not sure if its 1.25 or 1.5 thread pitch.

I tried to size-it using nuts from the hardware store, but both the nuts I have each go exactly 2 turns then stop.

Would anyone on here happen to know the correct thread pitch for the power steering shaft?

Sucks, but I would say replace the shaft and nut, or whole pump.

If the nut works loose, it can damage the timing case, and interfere with the oil pump oil pressure relief valve within the timing case. Can lead to no engine oil pressure

Just take the nut (if it is not damaged) to the hardware store and find which bolt it threads on to.

hi, thanks for the reply.... yeah, i tried 3, including Napa, the gauges they have only go to m12 ... the one at napa, had m14, but not the correct pitch, only 2.0 .... I'm kinda out in the sticks, our local hardware didnt have a guage for m14 either, and to drive all the way into Tulsa would take a long time.... was hoping someone here might know. but it might be what I have to do. cheers.

hi, thanks for the reply,,, well, it doesnt look -that- bad, just is a bit buggered from either the vice clamp, or when i dropped it taking it out. Replacing it might be what I have to do though, it just sucks to get this far and not be able to get the bolt back on. my thought was a thread repair die might fix it.

A good tap and die set probably has the correct size and a good investment for future mishaps.

Post a pic

My post is based on my experience.

its a part you don't want to roll the dice on.

Also, if you dropped the pump, is there any damage to the pump gear?
The slightest of damage to the gear can cause a loud knock

14mm 1.5 pitch.

I did something similar and it worked. However, I was putting in a Partsouq order and just ordered new. It was really not much.
