Wanted to take a poll on what oil changing interval you are using. Please note the oil you're using, weight, filter (if OEM, the -YDZZ3 or -20004), driving conditions (high/low temp range, how dusty, city/highway, towing, etc.)

The maintenance light in my dash started flashing during a road trip this past weekend (first oil change was the dealer freebie, but I brought my own oil). Manaul says it flashes for about 12 sec after driving 5K mi, then will stay on after 7.5K or 8K mi. I'm currently using Mobil 1 Delvac 5w40, oil still looks pretty new (has that golden tinge, not dark black) after 5K mi (4.2K of those miles were road trip highway miles in AZ/NM/CO, no towing). I was thinking about going 7.5K between changes. I know the guys on bobistheoilguy say the 2UZ is easy on oil. Just wanted to know what most members here were running.

5k OCI (I know I can stretch the OCI but I am comfortable with it) with Mobil 1 10w30 in South Florida. OEM filter, don't now the part number. Not dusty at all, 50% city/highway, no towing.

every 5000km (Kilometer, not mile)

OEM oil and filter (not really sure which is it of the ones you mentioned, we only get one kind here)

Extremely High Temps, very dusty, mostly highway and no towing yet :grinpimp:

My daily commute to work is 60km round trip mostly highway. I could probably go with more that 5000km between oil changes, but with the kind of weather we get here, and the way I abuse my car, I'd rather be on the safe side :)

3000 miles intervals
5w30 Mobil
Filter OEM (Toyota)
mostly road, but ocassional extreme dust for days on end.

FYI:
Air Filter = OEM I change it every other oil change or 6-9000 miles

I use this method on all of my trucks even though some see worse conditions than others.

As far as I'm concerned a few more bucks to have clean oil is how do they say....................................................

Priceless! :D

Why don't you listen to the guys on BITOG. Their opinions are based on actual UOA's, not specualation. There have been a few UOA's with that engine having more than 10k for the interval on synthetic, and they have been fabulous. Running 7.5k is not an issue.

7500 miles / M1 5-30/ Highway 70% Intown 30%, Filter Mr. T Large.

I use the OEM filter (YZZD3), though I still have a couple B5 units left from the LC days. I have received sale prices from the dealer on oil changes so most have been Toyota petrol 5W-30 with the D3 filter. I change at 5K miles. Old oil looks good and no consumption.

When I do my own change I have used an OEM filter and 5W-30 oil, of which 1 or more quarts will be full synthetic. My current change has the D3 filter and 3 qt syn for the winter.

Highway 70%, City 30%. Occassional off roading (e.g. forest roads). No towing.

As long as I am under the CPO, I will continue to change at 5K miles. After that I will look at using Blackstone and BITOG and full syn for oil and changes.

Mobil 1 Oil (Extended Life-15K) 5W-30 / Mobil 1 Filter / 7,500 - 10,000 miles/ 50% Hwy-50% City

12,000 - 14,000 miles M1 5w30, M1 standard oil filter. Very dusty conditions, live on a gravel road. South Carolina has a great range of temps and our climate runs from single digits on occasion well on into the 100's. Typically my oil will see a 50 degree ambient temp spread during a normal interval for me. I tow medium loads and I haul a full vehicle (6 adults and college tailgating gear :D ) about every weekend this time of year on a 250 mile roundtrip.

Also, I have ZERO oil consumption. I run the full OCI without a need to add.

Tad...Do use the same filter for the full 12-14K?

I usually go 4-5.5k on Mobil 1 5-30W Cleen 7500 series. I use the K&N Performance Gold oil filter, i believe partnumber is HP-1002. Been using that filter for the last two and a half years. Just started using the Clean 7500 when it came out but used regular mobil 1 before that. When i change my oil it usually isnt that dark yet but i just change it to be on the safe side as i do beat on my motor constantly. I do 50/50 in terms of city/highway but if it gives you any idea how i drive, i usually get 10mpg....thats why i make sure my oil is nice and fresh.

10k w/ M1 5W-30 and the OEM YZZD3 filter (50/50 city/highway). Oil still looks good when drained and I wouldn't be suprised if it was fine at 20k. Zero oil consumption.

Jim - Why are you running a 40 weight oil in the cruiser ? You are sacrificing MPG for no lubrication gain.

I am currently. So far the UOA results have good numbers and pretty low silicates.

8 to 10K mile

8-10Kmile OCI since broken in. (A couple at 3K in the early days)

Always M1 5W30 and mix of Toyota (whatever they have for the '00), various quality Fram and Purolator filters.

70% Mom-taxi, 20% highway, 5% on the beach.

No consumption between changes.

10Kmile old oil comes out a lot cleaner & lighter in color than my Jeep's after 5Kmiles.

Regardless of how long you stretch the OCI, don't forget to crawl under and lube those zerks on the drive shafts and U-Joints at 7.5K.

every 5000 miles using M1 5-30 and oem filter, dont remember part # right now.

80% city driving, 20% highway.

every 7.5K with a synthetic blend 5w30 and purolator or fram filters (sale item)
pretty much average conditions - not too hot, not too cold, not too dusty, 60/40 city/highway

10k miles, Mobil 1 5W30 or 10W30, Toyota or Denso oil filter, 50/50 city/highway use, not many short trips. No oil consimption. Oil anaylisis has shown the oil can handle it no problem. The exception would be if you do lots of short trips in cold weather when the fuel/moisture in the oil doesn't get a chance to evaporate.

I just switched to AMSOil Series 2000 0W-30 which is tested to resist wear and thermal breakdown significantly better than even Mobil-1 SuperSyn. It's supposed to be good for up to 35,000 miles between changes under "normal" use. The AMSOil filter (EAO57) is good for 25,000 miles, so that's my goal. The oil costs almost $10/quart but if it's as good as they claim I'll only change my oil about once a year, which will leave more time for  .

I'll let you know how it holds up.
