What lift do you have to have 35 mud terrains on a 100 series?

I have a 2001 Land Cruiser and am wonder if the 2.5 OME lift will clear 315 Mud terrains and i do not mind rubbing. But i cant find any Land Cruisers with 315s, so need help.

Spend a little more reading this forum. There are numerous threads on the subject. there are two ways to achieve it. But you need to read up and decide which is the best route in your opinion.... there seems to be some controversy over the subject....

in short- conventional wisdom is that the 2.5 lift alone doesnt quite do it, and you will need a body lift and adjusted bump stops to avoid rubbing at full lift.

Paul may of Equip does.... but he is also seriously thinking of going back to 295's after see ING mine. The rub, loss of power, gas mileage, etc. are making him rethink. I personally would love to run 35'S. However, for me 295's seem the best option....

I have ran 295 and 305's. They are by far the best tire size choices you can pick. I love the 295 because it is a tiny bit taller than the 285, and I loooove the 305's because they are a .1" smaller in diameter than the 295's, but .7" wider. That .7" really makes the tire sit almost flush with the fenders. I love that.

What is your intention for use on the 100?

285/75/16 -
295/75/16 - < those are the tire sized that can fit with no modifications.
305/70/16 -

(let's not start another debate pleeaassee)

Yes the OME 2.5 will clear 315's. Almost all that run the 315's do rub.

The only spot that I rub with the 315's is the plastic inner fender well. I trimmed the area that was rubbing and no more rub anywhere while daily driving or mild trails. I haven't tried rock crawling since I trimmed so I don't know if it will then.

I was scared of losing too much power when going the 295 route, so I went with the 305. But is the power loos dependent on the width of the tire or the height of the tire?

All I know for sure is that the speedometer is thrown off less with the 305s lol

A little of both plus the weight of the tire.

Height effects gear ratio
Width effects contact patch
Weight effects rotational mass

I want 305s however I think I am going to go with 285s.

I would think it would be more on diameter than on width. Weight does affect it of course, but as you increase the diameter, you are moving down the torque curve on the engine.

I would think diameter is the main factor between two oversized tyres like 285 vs 295 and weight is a factor when comparing OEM size to oversized. I sure noticed the difference in diameter and weight on my 315x80x16 Simex compared to OEM.

I have thought of going to a 255-85R16 over my 285-75R16s, to get to a true 33" tire without getting too wide. I have been trying to find the weight of these tires (please note that I am looking at Cooper Discoverer S/Ts for both), but have not found that data. I have been wondering which one may be heavier and if it will make the truck "feel" more sluggish than it currently does. :meh:

Ok, now where do I find the DIY for this?

I will need to do this shortly... and yes, I've already moved my pillow and sleeping bag into the dog house. :)

Jack, support and remove the front wheels. With a sharp utility knife cut the bubble portion of the inner fender skirt at the protruding pinch weld. With a large adjustable wrench or pipe wrench fold the pinched body panels over and then beat flat with a BFH.

Spresso, that's exactly what I need to do as well. Thanks for the tip. I'll have to make it work with an MFH, however. :) How far over did you bend/beat them, pics look like they're still sticking forward.

On your last pic, what the heck are those old-school sliders? I don't recognize those from your build.

oh, and Safety Guy was wondering where your jack stands were?

Sorry I don't have a photo of the post bend process...and my LC is covered in dried up mud right now  otherwise I'd go out and snap you one ;).

Once you beat the seam over it provides as much clearance as you're going to get without getting out the sawzall and performing serious surgery on the fender. :D

I never crawl under any vehicle without jack stands...this was taken 5-6 years ago...I'm assuming I had them placed up front for support :).

Can you run the Yota mud flaps with your 35's? I'd like to have something to prevent the spray. I'm trying to picture how they mount and wondering if they could be trimmed along the same line as the liner in your pic.

Anywho... what were those funky sliders?

Those were my old step sliders; before my current V3 ;). I don't think there would be clearance for the OEM mud flaps with three-fives. Have something else planned if I ever get to it!
