I had a rear axle seal fail while on a trip, lighting up about every light on my dash so I’m going to replace the sensors on each side, what is this sensor called?

Those are the ABS sensors. Right (89542-04020) and left (89543-04020). Jokers aren’t cheap. If there are no ABS issues, I wouldn’t bother.

Thank you Sir

If you got ABS codes it’s more than a seal failing.. the bearing too probably.

Sensors are easy to inspect for damage, especially with as little rust as you have. Remove the 10mm nut, pull the sensor out, inspect the flat surface on the tip for evidence of contact with the bearing shield. It’ll make rubbing/abrasion marks in the plastic of the sensor.

I had a leaking axle seal while on a trip, had the seals and wheel bearings replaced mid trip in Idaho. Theyvdid not have the sensor replacement in stock but they recommending replacing them when home because they could light up my dash again just because they came in contact with the gear oil. So everything is fixed and just looking into sensor replacement based on the Yota dealer recommendation.

Gear oil contact is totally fine and won’t hurt anything. Normal operation will see that sensor in contact with gear oil and grease. The lights were probably because when the bearing failed the part that the sensor gets its final from was destroyed.

If you want to throw money at it sure get both sensors.. but you could pull them and inspect for damage. If the wear isn’t through the plastic into the metal it should be fine.

I’ll see if I can dig up the picture of my sensor that did see metal contact (and a whole lot of oil and grease) from a failed bearing but is still installed and working great 30-40k miles later.

Thank you for all the feedback, I’ll pull the sensors and take peek.
