I was reinstalling my heater today and worry that I have messed up my ignition. After I put it back in, a fuse was blown. That was probably because my heater box is so close the fuse box that I bumped it with the metal brace on the heater. I replaced the fuse and that circuit seems fine now but when I tried to start, I got no spark to the distributor. It cranks just fine.
I looked at this part on the firewall:
And wondered if that was where the problem lay. After switching things up, I found that if I just connect the blue and green wires, it starts and runs just fine. Obviously, this part has a purpose but I don't know what it is. I have a pertronix ignitor and coil. I'm thinking this ceramic block is some sort of resistor to protect the points from too much voltage but is unnecessary now that I have removed the points. Can I run without this part now or am I asking for trouble?
