What is the value of a rust free FJ60 "shell"?

Point of reference: I sold an original New Mexico 1987 FJ60 perfect body and frame, with axles, rims--basically everything except for the engine/tranny/xfer for $1000. That was 3 years ago.

I did. And I knew that as well. I sold it to the Technical Director of the Denver Region of Toyota Motor Sales. :)

Location Location Location. By who bought it shows where you were three years ago. Where you are now price it at $2000 and they would be lining up to buy it. Rollers are not as easy as running to transport but easier than one without axles.

Are you looking to sell just the body or is the frame included...?

When I started the thread, I was thinking just the body/glass.

When I bought the truck, I bought it as a non-running project (motor threw a rod). I accidentally bought a F to replace the 2F and got discouraged when the power steering mounting bolt holes were missing. The project got shoved into a hole in dad's barn until now. I never registered the truck in my name and don't know what I did with the title. Therefore, I consider it a parts truck to repair an existing FJ60. If somebody was willing to go through the hassle of going through a title service, I guess they could make a whole truck out of it again.

Some of the stuff I read about putting FJ60 springs on a FJ40 mentioned using the FJ60 spring hangers. I do not know it I will butcher the frame or not yet. I guess it depends on what a rust-free bare frame is worth.

If it makes more sense to sell the FJ60 as is and buy aftermarket parts for the FJ40, I will do that.

I would think so... You could get far more for the rust-free frame intact than the cost of the parts to mount the springs.... it is mre than just the hangers from the 60 frame anyway so you might as well go all new...

As far as the title... if you have a bill of sale from the person you bought it from you can more easily get a replacement title... but that is all on the buyer anyway so no worries for you....

Is be interested in the body and the frame. I'm in Kentucky and would want to wait until snow is gone. Let me know when you have worked out a price for both. Trying to breath new life into my 85 60. 2f and drive train in good order. Frame is honeycombed body drips away with the rain. He is on life support now.

It can be pretty easy in Tennessee. I was given a '70 Blazer as partial payment for some work I did three years ago, but the seller had no title. All Tennessee required was that I get a notarized bill of sale (I used a standardized state form) and get a pencil rubbing of the VIN. As long as there are no liens or other issues with the title, it only takes a week or two to get the title back from the state. As woytovich said, though, this would be the buyer's responsibility.

To answer the OP's question, in SoCal its scrap value. If you could wait until one pops up, and drive out here with a trailer, you could probably get it for free.

My dad got a wild hair and called me with this idea today. Convert it to 2wd, slam it, and sitck a chevy V8 and automatic in it. I just happen to have the front and rear clips from a Jaguar XJS that might work for this. :)

That's a big KNOW KNOW....

I guess the 60 is off the market. My 76 year old dad wants me to build it for him as a 2wd!!!! Jag suspension and all!!!!

It will be a few inches higher than the paint-hack, but it will be somewhat low on 20's.

Oh, man, just buy him a PT Cruiser!

With all due respect, do that and I may just drive down from Canada to kick you in the shin.

You'll have the only one! (For good reason). I for one, would like to see it. Please post pics of the build. If dad has deep pockets, stuff one of these in there.

I think I threw up a little. Your dad should know better....this is sad

I'm putting a 5.3 LS in my Fargo. Not a 454LSX, but it should be fun enough for the $1000 I have in the engine, trans, fuel tank, harness, computer and programming. It almost isn't worth rebuilding a small block anymore.

Wow, that's a clean version of my rusty silver 60. I wish I had a little play money to come and get it.
